DH and I are going to Ft. Meyers and then onto Sarasota and Naples next month. I have been looking for a good rate at an airport rental agency through the usual methods, including Rental Codes.com. Today I actually looked at a USAA brochure that came in the mail. We have had USAA for years, accessed rental cars via USAA before, but it had been so long that I totally forgot. For the last 6 weeks, the best rate I could get on a midsize, out the door was around $412. I have been almost tempted to pay up front with Hotwire for about $320. Today I got a Hertz rental for $268 out the door, and then decided to try Budget. I scored $239 on a midsize, taxes, etc or out the door.

USAA is great for those who have insurance with them. I book online via the USAA website. I'm paying (after coupon) about $300.00 for a compact for two weeks with Budget.

I was looking up car rentals for Spring Break next year and initially Hertz wanted up to $1600 for a week for a van!!!!!! HOLY COW! But after I read your tip (and we've rented through them before using USAA, but hubby did it last time so I forgot about that benefit) and we can get the same exact vehicle for about $500!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still not sure what we're gonna rent though or if we are gonna rent, but wanted to thank you for putting this up here! I came on to look for codes because no way was I going to pay those original prices!!

Thanks again for the info/reminder!!!
