I didn't see another post like this but saw one for other months. So I thought I'd start one as I'm in booking mode now!
I have not reserved a rental yet. We will be renting a car from MCO Airport for 9 days. It seems cheaper to rent for over a week than the Thurs-Sunday that we actually need it for.
I had found a really great deal for enterprise for $167ot including fees and taxes but now I can't find it again BOO!

What deal have you gotten so far?
Rental Company?
Type of Car being rented?
If you used a discount code do you mind sharing it?
Total after taxes and fees?
Hopefully this thread will help everyone book the best deal.

We are renting out of FLL in May for just under 15 days, so we can't really compare. With May a lot will depend on the time of month you are traveling. If you are traveling in the first two weeks of the month I think rates would be lower than in the third and fourth week around Memorial Day weekend.

I found the best price at CarRentals.com. I am renting for 10 days with a mid size car, picking up At MCO(Orlando) then returning it at RSW(Ft.Myers) my rate was with all taxed $344.61 using Budget. Did you try Thrifty also they have a corporate code 004M001010, and Dollar corporate code is oi1054. If you use these check out Orlandoinfo/Orlando Magiccard...Good Luck.

I'll be renting out of DTW from 5/15-5/24.

So far, the cheapest I've been able to find (Intermediate):

Budget for $224.28 + tax

I'm getting a new Entertainment book next week, so hopefully I can get it a little cheaper at least. The taxes were coming in at about $60.

Be sure to register your new Entertainment Book online, they have far better rental car coupons online than they have in their book.

We booked our car (mid-size) with National for our May trip (13th to 22nd) back in December at $142/week. Our total for the 9 days is $260. I'm still waiting for a coupon though to bring the total down a bit.

With Budget using Costco code W852802 and Coupon MUGZ029 for $30.00 off the total for Intermediate including taxes is $153.84 or $183.59 for a full size.

I currently have 2 reservations [and will be cancelling one soon] for a ten day rental 5/29 - 6/8.

The first is through Alamo, mid-size vehicle using Wal Mart Code 428448 and a $40. coupon [10 days or more] from Entertainment Book for a total rate of $212. I am QS member so going to the garage booth for rental is quick and easy.

Second is National full size car [Executive Level so get automatic upgrade from mid-size] using Continental Code 5007160 and a $40. coupon [10 days or more] from Entertainment Book for a total rate of $243. Or, I could have just stuck with a mid-size vehicle for $20 less.

Even though I would love for it to go down a little more, I am pleased as punch with these prices. :goodvibes

Do you need to be a Costco member to use that code? TIA!

I have a Costco membership but not once in the many times I have rented has any rental company ever asked for membership card. I wouldn't worry about it. With Budget you can sign up for Fastbreak so you don't have to wait in line and then on the way out of the garage all they ask you for is your driver's licence.

I have booked using Priceline for our upcoming trip 5/1-5/8, I got a midsize for $157 including taxes. My MIL (who is joining us) has a reservation with Alamo using the Costco discount for 5/1-5/11 for $167 including taxes. I was not able to get that rate for my 7 days, the discount was for a longer reservation. I checked with Alamo to see if I had made the reservation and needed to return sooner ;) what would happen, I was told there was a great chance that my rental rate would change based on the current rate for the day I was dropping off...wasn't a risk I was willing to take.

We ended up reserving at Enterprise using a coupon code ESNR9EP which is 15% off your rental.
For 9 days at MCO our Intermediate Rental came out to $234 total.
Hopefully I can get it a little cheaper by May but if not this is the cheapest we've found yet.

Just started looking today as we realized that it would just be easier to have the convenience of a car! May 21-30

Keep checking kayak - not sure what size we want yet, we're not that picky. Although here at home we both have a full-size sedan, so even the 2 of us might feel cramped in a compact. Not to mention my in-laws will be in the car too - eek, might need the full size afterall. Or maybe I'll just land some awesome deal nad get an SUV! :lmao:

Kayak for the 10 days - $29/day intermediate (pontiac G5/6) - $263/week :headache:

Joined alamo's membership program...maybe that will give some deals?

Also considering priceline "name your own price"

Using Costco code 7014627 and coupon AD8Z59SDZ for $20.00 off the total with taxes for a midsize is $204.53. This includes the free additional driver as well. Don't worry about a membership since they never ask for it and you can use the Kiosk to check in and all you do is show drivers licence when driving out of garage.

Webworm, I've noticed you're the discount guru with Rental Cars here on the board! =) I tried to go to Alamo.com and put in the costco code and coupon code to get a midsize for $204 but I'm getting the price of 239ish. What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to rent MCO 5/15/10 9am to 5/23/10 7pm. Is that the difference? Because I'm only trying for 9 days?

Thanks so much for your help! :worship: I stink at travel discounts for some reason. =)

Ooh Ooh I used Alamo.com and put in the Corp Id of SUNPROMO along with the coupon code of AD8Z59SDZ and got a total of $205.59 for a Mid Size for 9 days :cool1:
I'm so glad I kept playing with the site. Thanks for the help Webworm!

How does Alamo work at MCO? Is this the rental comp that lets you walk down an aisle and pick out your own car? If so do you get a pretty good choice of cars at 9 am? =)
:banana: I'm so exicted!! I just saved almost $40 on our rental!! =)

ETA: I was booking my car online and they had a System Maint. Error, when that popped up there was another coupon code of AWEBCPN027 for $20 off your rental due to inconvenience. I went ahead and used this instead of the Costco code just in case. I don't know if this is a multiple use coupon but totally worth a shot.

Wow! Thank you so much!

Also, does my time matter? We have pick up at 4:00 PM and drop off at 2:00 PM. Would adjusting those times help?

Also, I see a lot of other coupon codes that expire in Feb, March and April. Would I be better off to wait until there are other coupons for May - or is this as good as its gonna get?

(Sorry, rental newbie here!):flower3:

No problem for the help. The only difference with the SUNPROMO code is that it does not include the free additional driver which normally runs about $10/day extra if that's important to you. It's actually National that lets you pick from the aisle and you can signup for free membership through mousesavers. I have used it before and it's great since no waiting in line. Alamo is very quick also with the Kiosk for checkin but you pick a vehicle from the size you have chosen.

With Emerald Aisle Service, you reserve an Intermediate (midsize) car. When you arrive at the rental lot, you go straight out and choose any available car from the "Emerald Aisle." All of the Emerald Aisle cars will be at least Intermediate size. You may also find full size and specialty cars, which you can take at no extra charge. The Emerald Aisle option is only available to Emerald Club members who reserve an Intermediate car.
