car rental check in

Just curious how strictly the rental check in and check out time are enforced. I moved to an hour earlier flight and was wondering if I had to re-reserve with the earlier check in time. I don't want to lose my rate

I know that a year or so ago, after I had booked my rental car, the airline changed my departure time, by a lot!!! I think our flight ended up leaving about 4 hrs later than it was supposed to. When I checked with the rental company they told me that they have a built in time leeway. Now, I'm not sure if that covers arriving early though.

I reserved a car with National for 10:30am last Sunday. We had snow overnight at home and I changed my flight to later, arriving around 2:30pm. No problem. I've also arrived earlier previously and it was no problem as long as it's the same day. One thing you do have to watch - if the earlier time ends up making the reservation an extra 24 hour period with the return time.

I believe as long as you don't go into another 24 hour period I don't think it should matter. I have picked up early and dropped of late and never had an issue.
