Preferences? Avis or National? Good or bad experiences please let me know, I am trying to make my decision.

I have used both with no problems Normally I find National to be MUCH cheaper so I go with them.

I've always used National. I like being able to select my car and no wait at the counter with Emerald Club (also now available with Quick Rent).

How about Booster Seats? I was just on the phone with Avis - they charge $8.00 a day for one... I think that's a bit excessive! I could just bring my own, I suppose... but now I'm thinking I don't want to rent through Avis... just because they've pissed me off!

I hate to tell you this  but all of the rental agencies charge you for the booster seats (and they are too much money). Also, if you need to get the booster seat, I don't think you can go straight to your car with National -- I believe you need to go to the counter. The counter is BAD;)

Anyway, but for one time that we rented for 2 days before getting on a cruise, we always take our own boosters. We have twins and the expense of getting 2 boosters for the whole stay can be more than just buying them.

Good luck!

They pissed you off because they charge for booster seats, like every other agency does? They all charge 7.00 per day and up.

Avis is an excellent agency as is National.

You are correct, add a booster seat and you are at counter service.

No, I'd say they pissed me off more because I wasn't told about this charge up front!

That makes sense. It did not show on the online reservation?

Nope, it wasn't until I went into the reservation to change my pick up time - the system erased the booster seat all together and I had to call Avis to have it added back...

The rate information is right beside where you check how many you want, booster or car seat. I can understand your displeasure at not knowing, but, you have to click those buttons!!! :) and, no where in the total of the reservation does it show that it added it in. I would be annoyed too.

I just used National on my trip ( june 12 to June 21 ) and Alamo had a huge line at noon and I was the only one at National . got a nice midsize car - I brought my own booster seat - only bad thing was I didn't buy the pre paid gas at $1.52 and brought it back w/ a quarter of a tank and was charged for 6 gallons ( should have been more but thankfully wasn't ) at $4.89 a gallon !!!! so if you say you will bring it back full do it !!! lesson learned !
