Are all companies pretty much the same? I'm currently with Geico, but can save a little bit ($11.xx / month - every bit counts, right?) by switching to State Farm for the same exact coverage.

Thoughts?

If you haven't already, I would call Geico to see if they would match the quote from State Farm just to avoid the hassle of switching. :) Otherwise, take your time and get a few quotes, you may be surprised how much cheaper you could get. As for your question if all companies are the same, every company has there flaws, so you just need to find one that works for you and not themselves. Hope this helps.

I have State Farm and have never had an issue with them. Then again, I've never made a claim either! :upsidedow But my agent is great so I'm confident if we ever do need to make a claim, there won't be any problems.

As a PP said, check with lots of different companies before switching. But also check w/ an independent agent. They handle many companies and might be able to find something less expensive with a company you wouldn't think of calling.

FWIW, State Farm is our current insurer. They were not only cheaper, but have been wonderful to work with when we've had a claim. I'm not sure how much of that experience has been due to our agent and his staff.:goodvibes

I was with GEICO for about 12 years. I checked with other carriers around my renewal time each year and they continued to be the least expensive until this year. I saved over $1000/yr by switching to AAA and got better coverage.

I would definitely call around to several different carriers.

I have had State Farm for many years. I have them for home ownders as well and had no problem with the one claim I had and they were wonderful to work with. A couple accidents I was in but not the driver and had to deal with State Farm they were wonderful. All State was a pain in the butt so I personally would never use them because of that. Geico could not touch my State Farm rate because of the discounts they give when you have been with them a while and with multiple policy discounts their costs for insurance are really low.

Beware of brokers that try to put you with small insurance companies who you never heard of. You may have a really hard time with them if something happens. A family member went with a broker and got a small insurer. Then when someone side swiped her the insurance company told her not to worry about it they would take care of it but failed to show up at court. She found out when selling her house that there was a lein on her house for the payment for damages to the other car.
