Hi, Dh had numerous non injury car accidents over the past 2 years. State Farm finally reviewed the car policy.. they raised the premium over $2000 a year. We have been with State Farm over 22 years and have been happy with the customer service. I know that dh policy more than deserved to be increased but the amount of the increase is scary.

I was wondering if any of you would share what Auto insurance you currently utilize. We are considering changing to 21st Century Insurance. The savings would be fantastic, same coverage for less than half of the cost of State Farm.

If you are happy with your insurance-why? If you are displeased with your auto insurance-why?

Thank you so much for taking the time to post.

Joan

I had State Farm and they raised my rates so high that I shopped around and ended up going with Progressive. I had SF for 18 years and never even had an accident and they raised the rates for no reason so I started shopping around, and I discovered that they were doing this to a lot of customers.
Have you checked into an insurance company that has car insurance as well as homeowners? Most of the time when you have multiple policies with the same company they give you a discount.

we have geico and we have always been happy with them. we also have our renter's insurance through them, so we get a discount, but even without the discount geico was about $200 cheaper for us than any other option that we found.

I had Country Companies for my Homeowner's and auto insurance. Then I got a 6 month quote from Progressive for the Auto Insurance and they beat that rate by almost 20%. But then the next 6 month period they more than doubled the premium for no apparent reason. I never got any answers to my emails and when I called their Customer Service line I was told they would call me back after checking it out and nobody ever did.

So then I got a quote from Allstate and they actually beat Progressive's original rate by about $10. I've been with them for almost a year now and no problems.

Now my homeowner's insurance is due at the end of the month and it has increased from $481 to $685. Again -- no claims and I don't know why. I started shopping quotes yesterday. Hopefully and Allstate agent will call back soon and give me an extra discount on the Autos if I move the Homeowner's to them.

I have metropolitan for my cars and home. They give great discounts!

We've been with Geico since 1986, haven't found anyone else to offer the same coverage for the same rates.

We have Allstate for our cars, RV, and house. We get great discounts for having all of our policies through them. But we've never had any claims, so I don't know what the rates would be like if we had.

Another option would be to check with some of the independent agents. They have access to multiple companies, and can help select the program that is best for you. Depending on your age bracket, Hartford may have some good options for you. If you belong to any professional organizations, AAA or AARP, anything like that, check with them and see if they have an insurance parter. Member organizations usually get a % discount over and above the other discounts available. Let me know if I can help further...

We have State Farm for both house & auto. We have been with them for 20 years.

It is hard for other companies to beat their rates for us because of the discounts we get for being with them. We have only had 1 claim in 20 years!

mamajoan--I feel for you. Just keep checking around. I have heard good things about Geico and Progressive.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your informative responses.

The exact thing that I am worried about is the same thing Tobiesfriend posted. ie= giving you a great rate to start with then increasing it for no apparent reason.

I am so glad dh is no longer working 12 hour night shifts then driving the 50+miles home. Since he has been working straight days he has not had one accident! Thank you God!!

I will be happy to see lots of responses on this thread. The more information I get the better off I will feel about my decision.

THANK YOU!!

mj - we switched from AAA to Mercury last year. We went through Auto Insurance Specialists (AIS). Our younger DS had his rates raised so high, that we had to at least get him off of our policy. We figured since he was changing, that we would to. It hasn't been smooth sailing (AIS promised things that Mercury couldn't deliver) but we all have coverage! Good luck.(Doncha just hate to pay more for something that you know you can get cheaper?!)

Min, you are so right about not wanting to pay for something I can find at a lower cost. I am worried about the customer service aspect of changing insurance companies. I am willing to pay extra for exceptional customer service. (Like shopping at Nob Hill vs Albertson) I just don't want to be swamped by the increase in premiums.
