Morning all. I always hired a car when going to Florida is this the best way for getting around in California. Will be staying at Knott's berry farm hotel.

Yes. It’s best to have a car if you are going anywhere outside the immediate area of your hotel with any regularity.

There are rideshare services like Uber & Lyft. These can work to replace a rental car, but work best for short infrequent trips. Could work well if you’re mostly planning on visiting Knott’s and Disneyland. If you are going to other sites around LA, the beach, shops/restaurants, etc, then it’s probably best to get a car for yourself.

There’s also public transport like busses and a subway/metro system. Depending on where you are and where you’re going you could use these but it would take a lot of planning and take a lot of extra time. I wouldn’t recommend it.

My brother visited me here in LA recently. He got a car via Turo and it only cost him about half of what any of the rental agencies would have charged. Moreover, you can get really cool cars, if you like. For example, a few times a year I’ll treat myself to a Porsche, Jaguar or BWM. You can even go with a Lamborghini or Ferrari, if you’re so inclined :-).
