Car Hire in August - What have you paid?

DLP dreams - it only works out about £30 more to have the car while we are at universal too but it means we don't have to worry about fitting in time to pick it up once we get to disney. Still not sure what we are going to do yet though.

Thanks Wayne - dates were very close - 12th - 30th. Those deals do look good. Is it a big inconvenience to take the shuttle offsite?

I have never used Sixt to know what their shuttle service is like but going back a few years (I am guessing pre 2000ish) all car rental companies were offsite, we had to get shuttles to Dollar, Alamo etc, never thought it was hassle, just the norm back then.

I have paid £570 for a full size SUV (5 door, 7 seater) full insurance and three drivers. August 1st to August 20th. That was through Alamo Brits. It's considerably more than that now I booked some time ago. It is an expense and usually we would have got a smaller one and two of us used DME for luggage. However this year we have five days at Universal at the start of the trip, four passengers and will have 6 cases and four pieces of hand luggage so we needed a big beast.

I would jump at that price now especially as 15 of us going so having one car that can carry 7 would be a real bonus. So will keep checking every day. I guess no rush.

I am struggling to find a good price for our 11th August to 30th of August dates. Cheapest I can find for a mid size SUV is £605. I don’t want off site pick up and can’t take a smaller vehicle, holding off booking with the hope prices will settle. Have had quotes for over £1200 for these dates. Crazy !

I think I am going to go with Sixt. Read alot of reviews that say off site not a problem and prices showing at £440 with 10% cash back (I know this not guaranteed). To be honest I have had a nightmare picking car up from Orlando last couple of years, massive queues so maybe this wont actually take any longer. My dates are similar 11th August to 1st September. We are flying Virgin and hope to be first off the plane so can hopefully get through immigration quicker and get to the car hire place in a reasonable time.
I did see on Virgin Holidays £480 for our dates for a SUV, never thought to look on there before. Going to wait for husband to get home to see if he wants to pay the extra £80 or £40 (depending on cashback) to get the car at the airport.

Update - just booked with Virgin for £518 (20 days, standard SUV) thanks DIS boards for the tip!

I bit the bullet and booked with Sixt. £440 for 21 nights for SUV and cash back via Quidco at 10 %. Cashback tracked straight away so will see if it gets paid.
