Hi,
Can anyone help with car hire please, it's coming up more than I'd imagined!
We need a people carrier for at least 7 people plus a midsize car, ideally with 2 drivers on each.
People carrier - 26 Oct to 23 Nov and car - 26 Oct to 9 Nov.
Thank you very much!

Hi ive literally just booked ours for Easter with Virgin car hire. They were one of the cheapest as some were double. plus they use Alamo.

If you post best prices you can find and where you found them I will have a search and try beat them.

Have you tried Hertz? They have got 25% off worldwide rate at the moment and 8% cashback through Quidco

Rentals have to be completed before 31st March Joh. Not 10 minutes ago they sent me an email offering me 30% for being Gold member but again only til 31st March.

The Winter Wondersale is now on!

Get 2016 off to the perfect start with a glittering Winter sale on Hertz car and van hire - now faster and easier than ever.

To save up to 25% on worldwide rentals, book by 31 January for a minimum of three days and complete your rental by 31 March, 2016. Blackout periods apply.

Thank you Wayne.

Prices so far are £800 for a 7 seater with additional driver and £289 for a mid size car (think intermediate) with additional driver.

Seeing similar myself. All I can suggest is keep watching for a sale. I rarely book car rental more than a couple of month out, unless I see a good offer it's often the last thing I book.

I always use Alamo because we have only ever had excellent service from them (and I am lazy), but their prices do vary wildly. I have always managed a great rate by checking daily (clear your cookies). I trawl all the car hire companies websites to get a sense of an average price then press buy when I see something less than that. Last summer we got a 7 seater SUV for £500 for 19 days which was a great price. But I saw that price once only and booked it about 10 months before our holiday. That same vehicle was more generally £800-£1,000 and got as high as £1,500 some days. So my advice is to search daily. Good luck.

Just wanted to ask a question about the excess insurance.
What is it eve every one normally takes out?

If you rent thru a UK agent all insurances should be covered.
Example from Alamo UK site:
  • Collision Damage Waiver (USA: No Excess)
  • Extended Liability Protection (EP) (USA/CA: up to $1 mil)

I thought so but then somebody said to keep that there was all these extra insurance that can be added and that it took her price up by an extra couple of hundred!
So then I thought God I've been doing it wrong as I don't normally add all the extras on? Or am I still doing that wrong lol

On the package Holidays (Thomson, Thomas Cook etc) where they give you 'free' car hire, you still have to pay the insurance ontop. In 2013 they (TC) wanted £213 for the insurance (paid locally) and that was for a tiny car for 2 weeks. It was cheaper to rent your own car at the time.

Sixt was the cheapest for us, booked direct. If you book Avis with BA, they allow an additional driver as an executive club perk, it's free to join if you aren't already a member. Hertz has always let us have an extra driver free too, also as part of their club I think. Also try Thrifty, cheapest, like Sixt, if you book direct with their U.S. website.

Hertz allow a spouse extra free with Gold club.
Booking direct with US sites generally doesn't give adequate insurance cover for UK travelers, check cover carefully.
