Hi

We are going 'car-less' for the first time in March but were talking about perhaps hiring some cars for just one or possibly two days to explore out of the bounds of Universal and Disney and do a bit of shopping

Has anyone ever done this before? If so, how much should I expect to pay and where can we pick them up that is easily accesible by either a towncar from a Disney Resort or Disney Resort Transportation? Can the hotel organise anything like this?

Thanks for any help!

Richard.

We've used National at the MK car care centre in the past Richard and it worked out very well. They will pick you up if you give them a call in advance, and then drop you back at your Disney hotel when you return the vehicle (or drop you at one of the parks if you'd prefer).

I believe Alamo & National are one and the same now, and share the car care centre, so you could try both to check for the best rates available.

I honestly can't recall how much our daily rental was, but we did use one of the coupon codes from the mousesavers web site to reduce the price a little.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Hi Richard

We are hiring a car for two days of our stay. We are going to go with a company called Airline Networks. I have had them recommended to me by a few people.

For two whole days, with a very good package and a full tank of petrol for a convertible it was £66, which i didn't think was too bad at all.

Their website is www.airline-networks.co.uk

Hope that helps.

Lisa

Sorry Richard, thats the wrong link. If you are interested let me know and I will have a look at home for it.

Lisa....could the site you intended be Airline Network ?

They are well recommended on DIS. We used them in October and their service was great:Pinkbounc No CC imprint required for Platinum cover as there are no insurance excesses:bounce:

Thank-You for your replies :)

Amf/Lisa - Where do you have to pick up your car from the Airline Network?

Paul - Thanks for that, having it in The MK Car Care Centre would be ideal.

Does anybody know if I could ask the hotel to sort it out upon arrival?

Thanks!

Richard.

I'm not sure the hotel would arrange it directly unless you were staying as a concierge-level guest (and even them i'm not certain). They will probably just put you in touch with Alamo or National and let you work out the details.

Paul

Richard, they have various locations you can pick up and drop off at.

You can do a search and see what locations and the end price and have a play around with them on the internet before you book anything.

The only thing I would say is be careful if you book online, for some reason the times section of what time you pick up and drop off keep reverting back to silly times like 2am pick up and drop off. So we found ringing them was easier, but the website gives you an idea.

We hired a car from Alamo for two days in December, and arranged it before we went.

We were delighted with the rate and it all went so smoothly! Firstly we checked the rate online and then called them on the UK tel no. and got it for a few pounds less than the online quote. It was £71.99 inclusive of all the fees and CDW etc AND petrol!
We received a voucher through the post. We were anxious to find out if there were 'hidden' charges and called back again for reassurance which we got, and once out there, we had no problems at all either.

We were staying at the Dolphin and they have an Alamo desk there so it worked out really well being able to go the desk, complete the formalities and then drive straight off. We used the car for Busch Gdns one day and then IOA the next.

It would really be worth your while checking this out.

Excellent news about the Dolphin, Shirley. I'd heard you could drop-off cars there, but wasn't aware it was a pick-up location as well - they may come in very handy for future trips.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Richard,

We're in the same position - just want a car for a couple of days. DD got a brochure yesterday from Attraction Tickets Direct who are offering all inclusive car hire from £30 per day for the smallest vehicle up to £75 per day for the largest.

I've checked their website, but they don't seem to advertise car hire on there - just the tickets.

Does anyone have any experience of this company for car hire?

I have hired a car for a couple of days on two holidays now. Used Holiday Autos both times booking via the website. Last time was at New Year and it cost £66 for a full size 4 door with "the max" which includes extra driver and prepaid full tank of fuel. By the way you cant book one way hires on the web site but calling HA they cant give the same discounted rates so they told me to book the hire on the web and then call to change the details the day after. My reason was to have the car a couple of days and then drop it at the airport at the end of the holiday. HA use Alamo as well by the way.
