Hi,

Last time we went to Disney our 8 year old was only 3 and was in a car seat that Virgin provided. Now he's 8 I want him sat on a booster seat, but I'm trying to work out the logistics of that!! Is the only way to take one in our suitcase? I'd rather not do that as it will take up so much room, but I can't really work out another way!!

Thanks for any ideas :-)

PS does anyone know how I can put a countdown ticker on??

Who are you flying with - I know virgin carry a car seat or buggy at no extra cost.

Alternatively if you put a booster in your case and leave it behind you will have room for your souvenirs - they are only £10 or so at supermarkets.

Trunki do a backpack for kids that can be used as their handluggage and a seat - Boostapack. Never used one so can't vouch for it.

Hi Dixonsontour,

We have a cheap booster in the back of the car for when DS has friends round, but it seemed a bit of a waste of money to take it then leave it. We are flying with Virgin, and I knew they'd take our buggy for free, but didn't know they'd take a carseat too :-)

However the Trunki Boostapak looks fabulous, it has great reviews, so that's what we'll be doing :-) DS needs a new travel bag anyway, so it will be great :-)

Thanks again :worship:

Hi Wayneg,

DS needs a booster to keep the seat belt off his neck as he has autism and it can cause a meltdown if it irritates him too much! I was thinking about going to Walmart or somewhere to buy one, but now I've seen the Trunki Boostapak I think that will be a great idea :-) He'll be able to use for a few years and then pass it on to our DD2 for her to use too.

Thanks for your help :-)

I assume its height you want to give your Son as the law doesn't require any seat/booster, could you manage til you get to Walmart? $13.50 to buy. http://www.walmart.com/search/searc...h_sort=4&selected_items=+&depts=Bb_F_T_A_Gi_P

Been taking DS since he was age 3, don't remember any seats or boosters for him but he has always been tall(6`4" now age 16) Maybe we took a booster, I don't remember but we take very little luggage.

Glad I could help - let us know how you get on with it.

I had looked at them for my DD who is 5 but thought i'd stick with taking our spare booster seat - might look again.

Florida car seat law is very lax. I know 4 plus are legal without anything but I prefer to do the same as I would do in UK.

My cousin, his wife and son died in a car accident on holiday in Spain....their 2 yr old survived thanks to being in a proper car seat.

I am so so sorry to hear about your cousin and his family, what a tragic thing to happen

Like you, I prefer to keep to the same guidelines as the UK, plus with DS's issues using a booster is part of his routine of being in a car and keeps the seatbelt from irritating him, and makes sure he stays in his seat!!

We aren't going until November, but I'll try and remember to let you know how we get on with the Trunki Boostapak :-)

The car we hired last time - chevrolet hhr - was an intermediate car - had height adjustable seatbelts in the back. Check if the car you have has the feature - made it comfy for DD.

I'll have to check what sort of car we've got booked, but that would help too :-)

Thanks :-)

Hey folks!!
We're leaving for Florida in 8 days, flying with virgin. We're planning on taking our own car sears for our boys - almost 4 yrs and 22 months. Just wondering what the law is in Florida? I know ds2 we have to use a car seat but would eldest be alright in a booster?

Welcome to DISboards.

Child Car Seat Requirements

Florida law requires children under 5 years of age to be properly restrained no matter where they are seated in the vehicle. Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier (child safety seat) or in a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat. For children ages 4 - 5, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used. If a safety belt does not fit the child correctly, a booster set should be used to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts once they outgrow forward facing child safety seats (generally at about 40 pounds and 4 years old). Children from approximately 40-80 pounds and under 4'9" in height should ride in a booster seat.

Infants must ride rear-facing until they are at least one year old and weigh 20 pounds or more. Rear-facing, the infant should be semi-upright at an angle or no more than 45 degrees. A forward-facing older child should ride sitting upright.

Never place a child in a child safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger air bag. Always use the back seat.

Thanks for the info. Ds1 4th birthday is 3 days after we get back and he weighs just under 40 pounds. Guess we'll have to take his car seat!!

Have you booked a VH package or flydrive? or is it flight only?
If a package/flydrive and you have taken platinum cover they provide free car seats.

No flight only. Had planned to rent car seats until last week when we saw the prices - ridiculous!!
