We were contemplating the Grand Cayman island tour, but from the other posts, it doesn't sound like it is worth it.

He did however mention Captain Marvins. What is this? Is it a local tour company? Is it a land or water tour? My mother doesn't walk too well and I think she will be looking forward to some time on land by the time we get to GC.

Any information you have will be greatly appreciated.:)

Captain Marvin is a tour operator who is used extensively to take snorkeling trips out to Stingray City. His contact info is:

Captain Marvin's is a local business in Grand Cayman that does fishing/snorkeling tours. They provide excellent service and I highly recommend them. You can visit their website at:

We did a half-day snorkeling tour with them and had a blast!

We used Capt Marvin's last May. Great service, price and value. I highly recommend them.

Have a great cruise!

I have a Captain Marvin's story. We used Captain Marvins' for the 3 hour stingray city tour November of 2001. We were on Carnival's Triumph sailing during hurricane Michelle. (It was a very rocky ride!!). Anyway, due to rough seas, our time in Grand Caymen was shortened by 2 hours. No problem we thought as our tour left at 9:30 am. I asked for reassurance of getting back by 2 (the last tender launch) and was told no problem. So away we went. The tour was great. I loved being on a small boat and we had a great time. When we were leaving Stingray City (and we were the last boat there), the engine wouldn't start. All the Carnival passengers were getting anxious, the Princess ones left at 4 so they were fine. To make a long story short, it took an hour for another boat to get to us. They then TOWED us back to shore. It was a very slow trip. When we docked we had to wait to fill up the "bus" to take us back. I was flipping out as it was 1:45 by then. Let's put it this way, had one of the piers not been damaged by hurricane Michelle and the tender line was longer than normal, we would NOT have made it.

The tour itself was great BUT, I learned a valuable lesson. I will NEVER again go on a privately booked tour that gets back less than 3 hours before launch.

I am not discouraging using them. I probably would again but this was way too stressful.

If you want another idea - we just got back last week and we went with Nativeway for our Stingray City/Coral Garden tour! They're only $25 per person, and they were wonderful! I highly recommend them! Here's a link:
