Captain's Quarters

On Huricaane Hillary Day (was supposed to be Cabo day on the EB 2005 Repo) we chatted with Cruise Dirrector Rachel and she said that she could NOT open the door to her Verandah. So I KNOW that she had an outside room;)

It's already been mentioned that senior staff is located through out the ship. So it would make sense that certain cabins are assigned to senior staff, but that the Deck Plans naturally don't identify which one.

So if there is a particular cabin number you're just dying to stay in, but it seems to ALWAYS be booked, perhaps that's the reason why.

I wonder if the Captain's cabin on DCL looks anything like the cabin that Captain Stubbing had on the Love Boat? Guess I'm showing my age. ;)

I doubt it is as big as the one shown on the Love Boat. All the cabins were far bigger on that show than on a real ship. Sort of like the espisodes of "According to Jim" that were filmed on the Magic. The cabin on the show looked similar, they did a good there, but there were bunk beds in the cabin for the kids and it appears far bigger than the real Magic cabins. And Captain Stubbing always seemed to be entertaining passengers in his cabin, hard to keep the location secret if you're doing that.
Despite some of the unrealistic things in the Love Boat, there is no question that the cruise industry today would not be as successful as it it without the Love Boat.
And, while we complain about how high Disney fares are compared to other lines today, when I went on my first cruise as a cameraman for a TV show in 1980..(yep, got paid to take my first cruise) ..the published fare for my TINY outside cabin with a 1 foot diameter port hole was $5000 for a 10 day cruise. And that is in 1980 dollars. The shows were all put on by the crew (the singer was the CAPTAIN). One postive difference on this French ship was the food. Totally gourmet.....and the wine was included at no additional cost for both lunch and dinner.

Sorry, been watching "The Deadliest Catch".....none of THOSE Captains has a cabin!!!!

That programme is currently being shown on TV here in the UK - I love it - compulsive viewing !! :thumbsup2

The Captain has a STATEROOM? Gosh, and here's me thinking he was a real sailor and had a HAMMOCK slung across the poop deck!:rotfl2:

I asked one of the massage therapists once during my massage if she knew how big the captians quarters was, just making conversation...her reaction was quite defensive...."How would I know how big is room is! I have never seen it!!" It was kinda funny, like she assumed I was hinting at something. :lmao:

Funny, on my first cruise, on a French cruise line with French officers, it was considered an honor for single women to be invited the Captains quarters for a drink. Note I say women, because it was never just one woman invited. But this was back in 1980, before all the terrorism concerns. I'll have to dig out the tape, (I was working as a TV cameraman and doing a story on cruising at the time), because I swear we actually did a story on the Captain's cabin.

There has been some discussion (here and on other boards) of crew using the L-shaped rooms with the large verandas on deck 5 aft. They would be staterooms 5152 and 5652 if they were labeled on the deck plans. There were reports of seeing a CM enter and leave one of the rooms. If I remember the discussion, they never asked if it was the CM's room. Who knows, it could be storage!
