We are on the Deluxe Dining plan next month and have an ADR at Yachtsmen's Steakhouse. However, I just read a great review of Captain's Grille, so I am wondering if I should change to Captain's Grille instead? Has anyone been to both places and can share their thoughts?

Yachtsmen's has the filet mignon, which is the only steak DH and I like, but it is 2 credits on the dining plan and Captain's has crab legs, which is another favorite. I can't decide - HELP!!

...I know - it's tough to have such big problems ;-)

We are doing dining plan when we go in Sept. We have done neither of these, but heard good things, so we decided to book both of them.:)

Although Yachtsman is not even close to being my favorite signature, I do think it's quite a step above the Captain's Grille.

I have been to both several times. I went to Captain's Grille for the first time in 2006. I had stayed at the YC a dozen times between 1997 and 2006 and had never eaten there in all those trips. When I finally did go, I was very pleasantly surprised and have been back many times since.

That being said, Yachtsman Steakhouse is a much nicer restaurant - better food, service, atmosphere and wine list. The intricacies of the dining plan elude me, so if the 1 TS credit v. 2 TS credit thing is an issue, I can't help you there. In the end, however, you will enjoy a fine meal whichever one you go to.

Thanks for your opinions. I'm glad to hear Yachtsman's is better since it's a Signature restaurant. We are staying in BWV for the first time (never even stayed near Epcot), so we want to try many restaurants in that area, but we also have some "must do" places (ie Cali Grill) that are farther away.

You have me curious, Pakey - what is your favorite signature?

If anyone has a detailed review on either or both places, I'd love to hear what you ordered and how it was, etc.

DH didnt like our meal at the Yachtsman, I did but he was not happy and doesnt want to go back there....

We both loved our meal at Capts Grill, the pork chop was the best one I have ever had.

We ate at Captain's Grille our first night in WDW just 2 weeks ago. Also on the dining plan look at the menu and you are allowed to do the Captain's Grille Experience. here is the link: http://allears.net/menu/menu_ygd.htm

Here is a lil food porn to persuade you...

My BIL's grilled porkchop - he loved it.

Must C Mickey, thanks so much for the photos. That helped a lot. I think we'll change to Captain's Grille for this trip and put Yachtsman on our short list for a future trip.

Thanks all!

We enjoyed the food at both but Captain's was a very pleasant surprise. Still, if you are looking for atmosphere and an overall "dining experience," I would recommend Yachtsman. Captain's food is very good but it's rather loud and more rushed. But it's definitely a better value with the dining plan.

When I talked to a CM at WDW-Dine she strongly recommended Captain's Grill. She told me they share the same kitchen BTW. My DS can't eat steak and the Grill has more choices for her, We are looking forward to it.

When we stayed at the YC last year we ate at both restaurants. The Yachtsman is an excellent restarant however, it is a 2TS as others have mentioned. We made an ADR at the Captains Grille out of convienence our first night there and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised; the food was very good. I'm hoping the CG is still a nice kept secret when we go back later this year.

I like both places, but would not take Captain's Grill over Yachtsman. For us, Captain's Grill is a place we go when we don't have toher plans. It is not a must do on my list ever. Yachtsman we tend to go once a year.

Yachtsman is a step up. We have had wonderful meals there. Great appies, the cowboy ribeye . Porterhouse was also wonderful.

Let's talk about the onion rolls. Now those could be a meal alone. You get butter and roasted garlic. :cloud9:
