I don't know how the lobster roll is, but I can tell you that the Captains Grille was a pleasant surprise for us when we were there in January. We found the food to be good, the service was good, and while not a fancy themed restaurant, it was still nice and quite.
The snack credit one at the food and wine festival is quite small and is probably not suitable for a full meal. There is also no guarantee that it will be offered again this year.
The lobster roll that we had at the F&W a few years ago was nothing like a 'New England' style lobster roll. It was just okay. I suspect that the one at Captain's Grille is much better.
DH and I tried lunch at CG last trip, for the first time. We loved it and will definitely go back. But we don't eat lobster outside of Maine.
The lobster roll at F&W is NOT a New England lobsta roll! It is really doctored up, and had quite a few more ingredients then lobster, celery and mayo. And it wasn't on a New England hot dog bun!! I have not had the roll at Captains Grill, but was quite impressed with the mussels there. And hear it is more traditional.
Speaking as a Boston native who has had her fair share of lobster, the roll is DELICIOUS!! I believe that it only had a little bit of mayo , celery and lettuce. It was perfect!
It's huge, and you will love it. We are going back to the Captains Grille for this very sandwich in July.
