"He is very "in character"."
Biggest thing to remember is that he is a
pirate. Do NOT expect him to be like Eeyore, and go along with whatever you might do or say or want.
In September we watched him give an autograph book back to a little girl and turn his back on the family, because the mom got RUDE with him ("oh you WILL sign that book, Jack"). I felt bad for the kids (though they were much older kids) but honestly, a parent who treats a character so rudely deserves some consequences. The CM with him just kept repeating that he's a pirate and he can and will act like a pirate.
That said, both times we have seen him at "his" spot he has been lovely with my son. First time, my boy had a newly-purchased light-up noise-making pirate sword, and Jack spent minutes with him learning how to use the sword, asking DS how to use it, and so on. The family before us had borrowed our pen so he could sign their map, and Jack tried to pocket it. The girl had to tap him on the back to ask him for our pen back.

So then he reacted when he saw the pen again. In December, Jack "looked different" than in Sept, and this time DS had a little light saber keychain (I'm a stickler for recommended ages on toys, and none of the "real" light sabers we saw are rated for 3 year olds, but the keychain was PERFECT, and IMO better than the big things) that he wanted to show Jack, and again, Jack took it and played with it. Knelt down and asked questions, showed Eamon how to use it, etc. He's in motion, but with DS it has been slow motion, and it works well if you have a camera that can handle that.
Both times we saw him he had photopass people with him.
We asked a CM on the island about when he might be at his spot, and the CM was happy to tell us.
