Captain Hans

We also wish him all the best for his future. We spent two wonderful cruises with him. It was especially nice to speak German with him. You must know that he is from the Netherlands and many, many Dutch citizens speak German very well. On our lreturn cruisers reception he came to our table and we had a really nice chat. We will definitely miss him on our next cruise!!!

I'm not starting any rumors here, JUST ASKING because I do not know.. Was he the captain on that trip where they had to turn back and get that couple in St. Thomas?? I really don't know, so I'm asking. I ran into him near "Beat Street", so we all had our pictures taken with him. He was polite about it when my group asked for photo's with him..

Capt Henry wasin command for the "Return to St. Thomas" (sounds like a good movie title, eh, what?)

& as of that cruise, all of the damage to the stacks had been repaired, but the tubular steel "cage" (for lack of a better term) that surrounds the top of of the stacks has yet to be replaced.

The Magic goes into dry dock this fall for 2 weeks, so I'd bet a buck it will wait until then to be replaced.

We too have only fond memories of Capt. Hans.

On our cruise last June I had an indepth discussion with him regarding the maintenance of the ships engines at the returning cruisers meeting . He was also the Capt. on our first cruise in Sept. 1998.

He came to DCL from Holland America. He was Capt. of the Maasdam.
