Captain EO?

I said it, but the point is how boring and dumb it is.

Although I think people should do stuff and make up their own minds, I also think they should do the better stuff first and make up their own minds about that, lol.

If you aren't limited on time, by all means, go see EO and find out how bad it is. But if you have to eliminate things, start with Stitch, the movie in Norway and EO.

Capt EO has been at Disneyland longer than WDW … (Feb 2010). Its time to wrap it up and bring in something new at BOTH Parks.

It was fun to see for about a few months. Not anymore.

My biggest problem with EO is that it made me feel REALLY old. I mean, they must have mentioned a dozen times that it was 25 years old, lol!!

And I have to say that I was kind of surprised that I was the only one walking out of the theater singing (until my 4 year old yelled at me).

OP - They had fuzzballs and Hooters in the Journey into Imagination gift shop. Frankly, I was hoping for a kicka$$ rainbow t-shirt, but no luck!

i personally like eo, but its definitely not that popular. It would be smart to rotate films every once in a while.

I see a lot of hatin' on EO, but we actually like it. I especially get a kick out of seeing the hairstyles and clothes in the beginning of the film.

Hopefully, they're working on something new because I don't want or need to see HISTA again.

I'm an MJ fan who sees EO every chance I get. I had already made the decision to NEVER sit through HISTA ever again the last time we saw that. Is EO cheesy? Yup. Is there a reason there is a sunny-side up egg on Captain EO after they crash? Hard to say. Why does Captain EO have such faith in his crew? No freaking idea. But I'll keep going as long as it's there. Will I miss it when it's gone? Sure. But eventually something new will go there and I hope it's great!!!

This kind of stuff is what the bulk of my paper discussed! The egg seems to have fallen out of Hooter's bed, and Hooter appears to represent the stereotypical character type of a clumsy, fat slob, which explains the food all over the place during the crash landing, in addition to the doughnut he throws at Commander Bog. (I also went into some discussion of the significance of him being an elephant in relation to this, in addition to how audiences would have responded much more negatively to his character if he were female rather than male.)
EO's faith in his crew, in my opinion, is all about the effort to go against negative expectations placed on people. EO himself is referred to as "the infamous Captain EO," and Commander Bog doesn't seem to believe that they will successfully complete the mission. Therefore, EO wants to do his best to defy these negative perceptions, and he is optimistic that his crew will help him do so. ("The command considers us a bunch of losers, but we're going to do it right this time 'cause we're the best," among other quotes from the film that supports this.)

I could go on and on, but I know most people don't care and won't even read this post. I just thought I'd throw this out there to show that some people actually do get something out of EO. (Palendat, feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this further.)

I never noticed the egg! If Eo's still there when we go back in December, I'll have to look for it.

Anyway, I thought the show started off as fairly standard 80's kids' fare. "Even though everyone thinks you're a loser, secretly there's a winner inside you!" But then they meet the Leader and it becomes a prototypical 80's music video in which the (male) singer brings the sexy back to the (evil) female by transforming her into a party girl. "Rock music will liberate you and also make you hawt! Let's dance!"

It's very much like Gowan's "Cosmetics" in which the race of outer space moon women are all grey and ugly until he starts singing at them and then suddenly they're putting on make-up, doing their hair, dressing fashionably and dancing. "Thank you, Earth Man!"

The Captain Eo movie definitely had identity problems...

I guess I am one that likes going to Captain EO every trip. This last March I introduced my girls to it. That was an experience for them. LOL!! I would start singing and they were looking at me like I was one of the aliens. I don't think they will ever admit it but I think they enjoyed it as well. Now my husband he always makes fun of Captain EO but he too whenever I ask if we can go he always goes and says it is a good nap time but I will peek over at him and sure enough he is watching it.
I couldn't stand HISTA. I remember going to that right after it opened and freaking out. I still have nightmares from the whip under the seat!!!

I am one who likes Captain EO. I go on it every chance I get and I was lucky enough to get a rainbow tshirt this time woohoo. I am a big MJ fan so I'm probably a little biased. I was interested to find that me and my sister like it (we are 80's children) and my younger cousins (aged around 8-17) loved it, but the parents hated it! I thought for sure, it would be the other way around.

I think Captain EO is one of those things that is super nostalgic and therefore is still pretty awesome if (IF being the important word here) you first experienced it as a kid.

For first-timers, though, it's pretty bad.

Kind of like when you re-watch an old TV show that you just LOVED back in the 80s, and now you realize that it's actually not really all that good.

My boyfriend and I saw this in March with my sister (14) and my daughter (7). My boyfriend was excited to see it because he remembered this from when he was a kid. A few things:

My daughter said it was "the creepiest and weirdest thing ever" and she was one of the kids who didn't understand if MJ was a guy or a girl.

The whole theater is dated and smelly ... seriously in need of an update.

It definitely reminded us of our childhood. The hair, the awful costumes, the LEG WARMERS!

But the serious best thing ever was when the entire theater burst into song and sang the end. Seriously?! It was by far the most amusing way to spend half an hour of my time. And, I found out I can't see 3D so I ended up feeling sick during the whole show, but I really enjoyed hearing the kids sing and ask their mom's if was a boy or a girl singing.

I do find it ironic that this really bad film outlasted the dancing drug addicted pedophile himself.

Seriously, why not just show Steamboat Willie and have a couple castmembers throw water and make sloshing river sounds? Way more entertaining than this film.
