Is Captain EO still in Epcot? We were there in June and there was mumblings from the CMs that it was possibly closing before the end of the year? Truth or just CM stuff?

Also, if it does close what would you like to see replace it? :)

It was there when we were at Epcot on 9/29. We didn't watch it, but there were tons of signs all over Imagination about it and I heard people talking about it in the bathroom.

Unfortuantely it is still there, there have been no official announcments as to when it will disappear, so most of what you are hearing is just CM's talking or maybe wishful thinking.

I don't care what they replace it with, it can be a wall to stare at, it's just awful and needs to go. I didn't love HISTA but I'd lovingly welcome that back at this point.

I don't care what they replace it with as long as it's something else. Seriously no love for EO in this house. We only go to it if we're with someone who's never seen it.

I wouldn't be offended if it dissappeared...3 of the 4 people in our group walked out of it this Sept, and just went "what....was that??" "what?" though the 4th of our group absolutely loved it! I don't really know what I'd like it replaced with...can't really think of anything that could go in that space.

You are nicer to your friends than I am, I wouldn't go see it again for anyone. I'd wait outside after warning them of the disaster they were about to witness.

:rotfl:

I LOVE Captain EO!

Was so excited when they brought it back, but I won't be upset when it goes again. It brings back memories of great times at EPCOT, but something new will be cool, too. I just remember being younger and wishing I could have that sound system at my house to play that exit song that loudly whenever I wanted.

I kind of enjoyed it on our first trip but not enough to watch it again.

I have no clue why they brought it back in the first place! I saw it when I was 5, pathetic! This is the one attraction I am very shocked they haven't updated with a Disney/Pixar movie.

Worst mistake we have ever made - seeing Captain EO...:)

They could replace it with a stick in the mud display and I would be happy...:)

No love for Captain EO from my family....

Uh...they brought it back after Michael Jackson passed away. And what is pathetic about it? It's simply dated (it first ran in 1986), not pathetic, in my opinion. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas produced it.

I didn't see it when it was first out, my first trip to WDW was in 1994. I enjoyed it, I thought it was MJ at his best, before he ruined himself.

It was never meant to be something new and fresh. It's great as a reminder of times past. My family loved it...even DS8. We plan to see it one last time in December.

I saw it when it was originally shown and my friend and I loved it back then. It was fresh and new, with (for the time) good 3D effects. So I dragged my family to it when we were there last December, and it is so dated and corny none of us liked it. It hasn't aged well. It isn't just the effects that haven't aged, the story isn't "timeless" so I can see why people might not like it now.

I don't know what they should replace it with, but EO was never supposed to be a permanent attraction. When they announced it was coming back, they said it was for a limited time, if I recall.

It was still there the end of Sept. I loved it - totally brought back memories of the first time I saw it at Disneyland Paris in 1992! Is it corny? Yes. Did parts of it make me cringe? Yes. Was it still fun? Yes!

The video they show in the waiting area is awesome - totally 80's :lmao: You know what you're getting into from the video: a 25-year-old movie with the "old" MJ and if you're not into that kind of nostalgia, then skip it. Three families walked out during our viewing and DH and I were like, "really - didn't they know what it was?" :rotfl:

I saw it at the end of September and wasn't a huge fan but my BF LOVED it! He even bought that little orange flying gremlin thing as a stuffed animal from the gift shop  I'm pretty sure it was only brought back to honor MJ right after he died, so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get rid of it soon.

And I'll just bet they cringe when they see their names credited to this.....thing. (actually, I think pathetic is not such a bad adjective in this case). MJ may have been a good singer and dancer. But I defy anyone to claim that he was any kind of actor. And the overacting by Angelica Houston was astonishing (would you like some cheese with all that ham?). I wasn't a big fan of EO the first time around. Seeing it again last month only reinforced the feeling. It is so bad, that I am really surprised that 'the suits' would risk the derision that has ensued. But of course this is just my opinion. And the opinion of everyone else in our group. YMMV

OK, before I get royally flamed: yes I know that there are rabid, er, avid MJ fans out there that think the ride is just wonderful. Great. Ride it all day. Over and over and over. That will free up at least a couple of seats at Soarin' and Test Track for the rest of us. Enjoy EO while you can and snap up all those wonderful souvenirs. The rest of us will just sit with crossed fingers that they come up with some kind of replacement soon.

We watched it several times in July. I really don't understand why so many fellow DISers dislike EO so much. My DH and I love it and every time we go see it the theater is packed and everyone is enthusiastic and claps before and after the show. True is is older technology and it is cheesy but that is part of the charm IMO :confused3.

I am looking forward to seeing it in November. I have been to WDW several times, but never saw it. I am not an avid MJ fan, but I did like him. I appreciate that they are making EO available for a while, for those who are interested. :)
