Anyone remember this? Best part of visiting Epcot in the 80's. The 3D effects, the smoke, the lazers, and that music that always had you leaving the theatre feeling good. Now that MJ's passed, there are petitions going around the internet to get it brought back. Good idea? Bad idea? Only time will tell. :confused3

That was my first job at Disney - working Captain EO and the Imagination ride (the original) - back in 1987. Michael used to stop in every time he was in town to see the show.

A friend sent me a bootleg DVD of the movie but it isn't the same watching it on a small screen without the lasers and smoke special effects.

"See ya later, trashcans!"

I would love to see it return, but I don't think it's going to happen. Too much controversy surrounding the man, and Disney obviously doesn't care if the movie in there is at ALL relevant (really HISTA? I was a kid when those movies came out...do kids even watch them anymore? It's not like it was an instant classic. short rant out) I miss it a lot, and I think it was a great fit, but I don't think there's any way they'd bring it back. What I would love is if they'd put something in there that WASN'T tied to a movie (I know, radical concept) something that was just creative and innovative and could stand the test of time a little better than HISTA. If it could be Captain EO, that would be cool.

I've heard conflicting reports as to why it was taken out. Some think it was due to controversy, others say it just wasn't drawing in any crowds and bringing in money. Seeing as the majority of corporations only speak one language, money, I'm inclined to agree with the later. If that's the case, they should have no issue with bringing it back, if enough people ask for it. I would love to have a Fuzzball plushie. :goodvibes

I'd love to see it return as well. I loved it!

Stupid question here...what is HISTA? :confused3

Thanks.

If they bring back Captain EO, then they better bring back the Dreamfinder and Figment. :)

I don't think they will bring it back though, the family would probably want too much money.

I know! I love the Dream Finder. And what on earth did they do to Figgy?!?!?! And the games you used to be able to play after the ride were fantastic. Now it's just boring. Ugh. :p

I would love for it to come back, but I don't think so. Too much Red tape.

However about 2 years ago I attended an autograph show, Chiller Theatre and it was in NJ and its great, got to meet alot of cool people. Christopher Atkins, Mickey Dolenz, Linda Hamilton, Henry Winkler, Corey Haim, Ralph Macchio, John Schneider (oh my he is still hot!!)

Anyway I digress, they have it in a hotel for the weekend and in 2 of the ballrooms they have comics and all sorts of different vendors selling stuff. Horror DVD's, posters, dolls, collectables.

I was walking past this one DVD stand and OMG haha there was Captain EO. I screamed and my friend with me thought I hurt myself. It was the best 20 bucks spent. Not in 3D but its still totally cool that I have it. Its in great condition and I watched it after he passed, it was cool, and totally corny but great!

I was there for it, but I really can't even remember the attraction. I do have a Captain EO pin and button. :wizard:

That definitely is cool! Yes, I would like to see Capt. EO back!

Just found this article online

Screamscape.com is reporting that Disney Imagineers are currently taking a look at the Honey I Shrunk the Audience theater to see if they can bring back Captain EO at Walt Disney World. A source at Disneyland confirms to POParitaville that it could be coming back to the original Magic Kingdom as well. It's not too much of a surprise that they are looking at doing this since MJ passed away. Even prior to his death there was a sudden boom in the interest of Captain EO and a fond remembrance of the movie. (See our post) If they are able to do this, it would earn them a lot of kudos from fans and will definitely make a lot of people trek to the parks to experience it again. But there is no definite decision. There is probably no way they will bring it back if they have to make any major changes to the theater. For those that remember it (or worked it) you know that there are some effects that were built into the theater for the movie. How much of that was changed or taken out for HISTA? Also, what is the quality of the print? Digitizing it is out of the question because that would also mean a new projection system. A new print from the negative or just a cleaned up print may be the best option. We'll keep all of you posted as news comes out.

I knew it was all about the money. Now all they need to hear is that this is what people want and it would make them a profit.

Oh, and MickeyistheMan...I've been to Chiller. Many times. :) Big fan of Living Dead Dolls. Have probably about 50 of em. :scared1:

I saw Captain EO at Disneyland in '89. I thought it was great at the time, but remember nothing about it now. :confused3 Never knew it had been in WDW...started going there in '97.

Yeah, I'd love to see it again, and have DH and the kids see it too. :thumbsup2

Found this online and thought it was interesting:
