Captain EO, the worst attraction ever.

Said You Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
You Got To Be Startin' Somethin'
I Said You Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
You Got To Be Startin' Somethin'
It's Too High To Get Over (Yeah, Yeah)
Too Low To Get Under (Yeah, Yeah)
You're Stuck In The Middle (Yeah, Yeah)
And The Pain Is Thunder (Yeah, Yeah) :3dglasses:woohoo:

OK...MRP5 you seriously have me laughing out loud!:lmao:

I was pleasantly suprised at how much I enjoyed the show (never saw it before) Yes its dated but thats part of the charm. I enjoy his music and it made me a little sad to see what became of him.

Hmmm...I was a fan when I was about 10 and I know I would have gone to see it but for the life of me I can't remember it. I think DH & I will take the kids as a sociological experiment...

Captain EO's existence in Epcot is an embarrassing attempt by Disney to exploit on Michael Jackson's death for its own profits.
Everything in the parks is an attempt by Disney to exploit something or another for its own profits---nostalgia, "magic", and even the King o' Pop.

Exactly. Captain EO's existence in Epcot is an embarrassing attempt by Disney to exploit on Michael Jackson's death for its own profits. I understand that the company's greatest concern is -- and should be -- making money, but its decision to reinstall a retired attraction shortly after Jackson's death is ridiculously transparent. This isn't a tribute but a capitalization.
But Disney never said it wasn't, did they? They never tried to make it anything else. I thought it was pretty clear from the start that Disney was looking to re-install it because Jackson had died. It's not like they positioned it any other way.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a fan of Jackson's. I don't care about him one way or the other. Some of his songs are catchy, his music videos were revolutionary, and the news of his death barely generated a blip on my consciousness. He was a talented and troubled man.

Though I disagree with the original poster's tone, I appreciate the overall sentiments. I do not believe Jackson is an appropriate fit for a Disney theme park at the present time. This notion of "innocent until proven guilty" is irrelevant in this context. Jackson may have had Constitutional rights to a fair trial in a federal court, but not in a theme park owned by a major corporation. In light of the allegations against Jackson, and the overall perception of him, I think Disney would have been better served keeping him out. The whole thing just reeks a little.
And if the Guest comments from the re-opening of the attraction had come back that way, then it would have been closed the next day (or not opened at all). But people lined up at 5am in California to be first in line to see it when it reopened, and Florida had a huge fan base as well. There was pretty much no scandal about it at all. No conservative religious group threatening a boycott ... no protests from angered parents ... Nancy Grace didn't even jump on it. If people were disgusted, that certainly didn't make it too far into the press.

:earsboy:

I guess I'm with the others who wonder if you knew what the attraction was when you walked in. I mean, Michael Jackson is pretty prevalent in the posters as you approach the theater -- did you not see them? If you DID see them, and you DID know that MJ was in it, then it's kind of silly to pull up the whole "shame on you Disney" thing after the fact, since that obviously didn't deter you from going in. It kind of reads that because you didn't like the show, Disney is scum for having put "this pedophile" in an attraction. But if you had thought the show was good, it would have all been okay.

If you feel so strongly about how horrid the attraction is -- whether it's because you don't quite get that it WAS an 80s attraction and is, therefore, bound by that technology and you think that's wrong, or whether it's because you don't like Michael Jackson the person -- then write to Disney and tell them. But if you're just mad at yourself because you didn't think to check on what the thing was before you walked in and so now you're going to toss the blame on Disney for somehow forcing you to watch it ... well ... then shame on you.

:earsboy:

I usually don't post on threads like this but I had to comment well said.

Not sure why the OP even went inside but they surely could have walked out. Personally if I have strong feelings about a celebrity, I don't go to their movies or patronize their concerts regardless of whether I think the production will be "good entertainment".

As for whether Disney is/was capitalizing on Michael Jackson's death, I don't think most people visit Epcot or DL for the sole reason of seeing Captain EO. Besides, many MJ fans petitioned Disney to bring the show back.

EO gets our family's vote, and we never imagined that an attraction could be worse than Stitch.

I thought it was campy and cheesy and ridiculous. In other words, I loved it.

As a young male, I absolutely loved Captain EO. I never got to experience it when I was a child back when it was originally open. I am very glad they brought it back. The music the cheesy effects and 3D overall it was a fun and silly experience that left me dancing in my seat and on my way out of the theatre.

I wouldn't call myself a enthusiastic fan of Michael Jackson, however I do enjoy his music and find him to be a terrific performer and artist. Like all the greatest minds and talents of the world he was a little weird but that only added to the mystery of his greatness.

As far as the pedophile claims, he was never found guilty and all those closest to him denied the allegations greatly. So that should be the end of it.

Well, the lamest attraction award goes to Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey...I didn't get that one at all! Why did they make it...and why is it still there haha? An audience member in June summed it up as the lights came on and he said, "WHAT WAS THAT?"

Totally agree. Sounds Dangerous was the worst!

Of course, no one was more "child friendly" than this pedophile. Shame on you Disney.

exactlly what we all thought here when I found out they were re-opening it. Poor taste, then again the Disney big wigs haven't been making many good choices lately...maybe they need a time out.

I have a 12 year old neice who is a big michael jackson fan and when I was there in October I decided to check it out to see if she would like it..... What I can say is that I didn't think it was that horrible.....

What would you want them to put in there?I would say if you don't like it then don't waste your time to do it and go and do something else...

Captain EO was the worst, lamest excuse for an attraction I’ve ever seen. Absolutely dreadful. With all the great ideas that could have been put into that space for Disney to throw in some old crappy 80’s video is almost inexcuseable. I never came so close to walking out of an attraction. If it hadn’t been so dark in there, I would have run for the exit. This monstrosity needs replaced asap.

Of course, no one was more "child friendly" than this pedophile. Shame on you Disney.

If thats how you felt about him, why'd you even go? To each his own!

I'm really looking forward to seeing it as a retro/nostalgia thing, but let's get real... Disney wasn't exactly treating that space as prime real estate before Captain EO either, with that horribly dated Honey I Shrunk... 3D movie. I mean really, has anyone even thought about Honey I Shrunk the Kids in the last decade?

I don't see Captain EO as something with staying power. It is a nice retro thing as a tribute to MJ while he's still fresh in fans' minds, but I do hope they're working on something new that will replace it before too long.

that and an undisclosed cash settlement.

but I agree have no effect on the attraction

but OP is right..it is the worst ever.

Not going to lie, I probably would have done the same thing if I were in his position. If I had the money, I'd rather just pay the greedy family off rather than a drawn out court session with tons of media coverage (not that the payment didn't get media or anything, but still.) And if anyone believes the family that accused him, put yourself in their shoes. If someone molested YOUR kid, wouldn't you want justice and put that person behind bars? They just wanted his money and used that allegation against him to get it. If he actually did molest the kid, I think they'd rather have him in prison than money. I know I would.

/End rant. My point is, why go see the movie if you have such strong dislike against him, and then to rant about his personal life here. This forum is for the theme parks and their rides, not Michael Jackson's personal problems.

Aww, I liked Captain EO. I never saw it as a child, not sure it was even still at Epcot when I went as a child or not, but I saw it last year for the first time and I enjoyed it. Of course it's cheesy but that's kinda what's great about it, I like MJ and his music though so I was excited to see it for the first time and part of it being old-school was neat to me since I hadn't seen it before when it first came about.

Maybe it's not for everyone, but I certainly don't think it's horrible or even the worst attraction on property.
