Captain EO, the worst attraction ever.

Right...and I'm not really 62 years old, I just look old because I missed my nap in day care. I agree that he was never found guilty and neither was OJ, but sometimes justice just falls on its face.

Captain EO sucked when it was first shown when EPCOT opened (which is why it was taken out) and it sucks now. The only reason it was put in at all was to capitalize on the tragic death of Michael Jackson. How does that make all you MJ fans feel, used perhaps?

It makes me feel like......

I want to rock with you (alllll night)
Dance you in to (sunnnnn light)
I want to rock with you (alllll night)
Dance the night a-wayyyyy....

:woohoo:

I enjoyed it so much last year when I saw it for the second time in my life. It reminded of my youth when he was normal and MTV showed videos.

I agree: if you hated Michael Jackson, then why did you go to see it? If this was something someone else in your party wanted to go see, you didn't have to go in with them. I hate to think that you ruined someone else's good time with your attitude.

I happen to have enjoyed it. The dude was a complete freak---and not in a good way---but he can perform. Plus, how can you not root for someone trying to save the world through song and dance? ;)

I actually completely agree with this. Well, I don't know if I can say that I really enjoyed it, but DH and I thought it was amusing and were glad to see it when we were there last year. If nothing else, the 80's dancing/effects were enough to make us giggle.

OP - if you don't like Michael Jackson, then why did you go see Captain EO? :sad2:

I remember watching this movie a few times in my youth and I liked it.

However...I went last Summer and saw it and all I could think was "what was I thinking back then" I found it dull and did not keep my interest.

But....guess what....my kids are 5 and 8 and it was their top attractions at EPCOT. They liked it a ton.

I would of never guessed that.

Well, I agree Disney really should put something new in there, sometimes their cheapness knows no bounds.

That said, I like Capt. Eo- much better than that HISTA garbage- based on a movie nobody has seen in 10 years. I wonder how long they are going to leave it there? If you go in with a sense of humor, it really is fun- the preshow docuementary where everyone is taking things so seriously to the eighties haircuts- fabulous!

I loved this attraction when I was 10, and I loved it again last year. DH and I left feeling happy. :goodvibes

I then hit up the kiosk selling Captain EO items. My little brother (30yo) is a huge Captain EO fan, so I had to buy him a poster and a magnet. He was super when he opened them up on Christmas Eve. It was like he was 6yo all over again.

I've been to it 4 times, twice in Disneyland and twice in Epcot. The times in Disneyland are better because the crowd really gets into it. People are cheering and clapping. I think a lot of Captain EO at WDW is lost on the foreigners.

Plus, it's cheesy funny!! There is so much stuff to geek out on.

I didn';t like it, my DD7 did....ok - if she wants to see it again I'll catch some shut eye...

I doubt they would have brought it back if he hadn't died. If he hadn't died, HISTA would still be there. I didn't see it when it was originally out, it was gone by my first trip in 1994. I enjoyed seeing it in October and saw it again when I was in DL in December. My thoughts were it was a shame what he did to himself, this film was when he was at his best.

I screamed when Angelica Huston is revealed to the be the princess.:lmao: Was Phyllis Diller not available?

Well, the lamest attraction award goes to Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey...I didn't get that one at all! Why did they make it...and why is it still there haha? An audience member in June summed it up as the lights came on and he said, "WHAT WAS THAT?"

We rode HISTA last year...and thought that was the most boring one there (but thought it was cooler the last time we were at Disney world 15 years ago...needs updating).

We then rode EO this summer and thought that could tie with HISTA as the top "do one time only" Disney attraction (but we got a good laugh at both)!

Then we rode Sounds Dangerous this summer and cannot imagine any attraction could be worse than that one! But once again we left laughing!

That is the fun of amusement parks....some rides are great and some rides are not!

I disagree. I saw it "way back when" and didn't remember it. So DH, the boys, and I went and saw it a few weeks ago...and LOVED it! DH and I actually teared up a bit.

I hated HISTA...totally bored me to death. But would see Captain EO over and over again..

Exactly. Captain EO's existence in Epcot is an embarrassing attempt by Disney to exploit on Michael Jackson's death for its own profits. I understand that the company's greatest concern is -- and should be -- making money, but its decision to reinstall a retired attraction shortly after Jackson's death is ridiculously transparent. This isn't a tribute but a capitalization. I consider Captain EO an inappropriate smear on a fantastic performer's life and an insult to his legions of (obsessive, at times) fans.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a fan of Jackson's. I don't care about him one way or the other. Some of his songs are catchy, his music videos were revolutionary, and the news of his death barely generated a blip on my consciousness. He was a talented and troubled man.

Though I disagree with the original poster's tone, I appreciate the overall sentiments. I do not believe Jackson is an appropriate fit for a Disney theme park at the present time. This notion of "innocent until proven guilty" is irrelevant in this context. Jackson may have had Constitutional rights to a fair trial in a federal court, but not in a theme park owned by a major corporation. In light of the allegations against Jackson, and the overall perception of him, I think Disney would have been better served keeping him out. The whole thing just reeks a little.

Captain EO was the worst, lamest excuse for an attraction I’ve ever seen. Absolutely dreadful. With all the great ideas that could have been put into that space for Disney to throw in some old crappy 80’s video is almost inexcuseable. I never came so close to walking out of an attraction. If it hadn’t been so dark in there, I would have run for the exit. This monstrosity needs replaced asap.

Of course, no one was more "child friendly" than this pedophile. Shame on you Disney.

So, tell us how you really feel. :lmao:

Wow, you guys really take attractions seriously dontcha.

Michael Jackson was a celebrity, disney is a corporation designed to take advantage of pop culture in some ways.
Speaking as a stock holder, this is what I expect the board of directors to do. Yep, call me one of the greedy capitalistic pigs. MJ was tried and found innocent, if he brings in the bucks and disney has a legal right to use him in an attraction. that's what I expect them to do.
Sorry if it bothers some "Disney is for the kids" "walt would be turning over in his grave" purist. Allegations, smallegations, the bottom line is MJ was an artist with a serious fan base that brought in the money. That's a perfect fit for Disney.

Don't like the man, don't go to the attraction.

I haven't seen it yet but probably will this August.

We will see it for the first time in June just because we have never seen it.

Aside from it being a movie-is it 3D? Are you standing or sitting? And are there special effects like the mice from HISTA or the bugs in Bug's life? If so that's a deal breaker for me, those just completely freak me out :sad2:

There are plenty of things in this world that I don't get or that I find lame. One thing I don't get is the point to seeing an attraction headlining someone you dislike and then complaining about it later. Don't see it! Pass on by and be done with it.

Disney is of course capitalizing on the notoriety of MJ and his death. Why wouldn't they?
