Our last day of our 4-day trip to Disneyland ended on the opening day of Captain EO. My husband is a huge MJ fan, so he was thrilled to be part of the madness. Turns out, like most things Disney, they did a good job of keeping the madness to a minimum.
It was a magic morning, so there were lots of people in line to enter the park early. They had made the 2 gates to the far left (near downtown Disney) lines for people who were there to see Captain EO. These lines were the same length as the normal park opening lines. DH went over and got in that line around 8:30am. Everyone in line had to sign a media release, as there was lots of media on hand.
After the Magic Morning folks went into the park at 9am, they escorted the EO fans in around 9:30am. The walked them in groups down Main Street and to the theatre to line up. Very orderly and kept things calm. At the theatre, they introduce "celebrity guests", which were mostly people who were dancers or inside costumes in the film. No Jackson family, no big names ... but everyone was very excited to see those who were there.
Crowd loved the film, lots of yelling and high energy. Many people were in MJ costumes ... later that day, we even saw a guy in a light-up EO costume. Star Trader store is selling retro-EO shirts, buttons, and posters.
By 4pm, the wait time for EO was down to 20 minutes (basically, just wait one showing), so the entire family went to see it then. I thought it was a fun retro show. The bouncing floor was a bit much when it bounced the entire dance number, but otherwise they kept the effects minimal and well placed.
Worth seeing if you visit and it didn't create chaos or huge crowds, at least not that we noticed.
