Captain EO is back? Really?!

I love Disney, and I really don't complain much, but I'm frustrated by news like this. I love the music of Michael Jackson, but this movie is ridiculous and doesn't need to come back. To me, there is absolutely nothing worthwhile in it...

It just makes me crazy to see we are getting old, outdated stuff like this when so many awesome attractions are coming to Disney parks in Asia. I read all about them on blogs, and it drives me crazy that we aren't getting anything cool and new here anytime soon. Yes, Avatar is coming, but that project has been taking quite some time and won't be opening quickly. Check out how fast Universal builds and opens their attractions. How is Disney incapable of matching that?

Even showing movie trailers would be an improvement in my eyes.

I just needed to vent. It just makes me angry that I have to save a TON of money to go to WDW (it's not easy), and instead of seeing something cool and new, this is what we'll see. Don't get me wrong - I'm still excited to go to my "happy place," but it would make me a whole lot happier if new, state-of-the-art attractions were coming in at a more rapid pace.

Unfortunately, EPCOT just hasn't been a major priority for Disney. Disney is like the Government. The wheels of progress move very slowly. Soarin has been in need of expansion since the day it opened, and how long did it take to get it done? Instead of spending the money to fix a much needed problem in the Imagination and Body Wars pavilions, they wasted money and ruined a perfectly good narration of Planet Earth, and perfectly fine attraction Test Track.

The wheels don't have to move slowly but this administration doesn't see the point in spending on something that is already making money and continues to do so no matter what the price point is. They want to be patted on the back for buying established properties but have avoided any real risk or expansion like the plague. I know that they are expected to announce a big plan for HS but I'm tempering expectations to see if it gets completed in my life time. With the time frame established for Avatarland I suspect my 2 yr old will be bringing his kids to the grand reopening.

That being said I love the new end to SE and we have tons of the "postcards" cycling as screen savers on our PC. As for TT I think they really thought Tron would have a bigger presence but they're running from than now so they put bad theming in for nothing.

I know that you didn't mean it that way, but that phrase gives me the creeps. And it is one of the reasons why I'd rather that WDW not bring EO back. Some things just need to be retired.

I may be dim, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what is "creepy" about my daughter liking Michael Jackson. What way could you have possibly taken it to see it that way?? Hes an entertainer - She knows nothing of his legal issues, since that really has nothing to do with him or the show.

That's an odd statement. A person's legal issues have nothing to do with who they are? I'm guessing you didn't mean it the way it came out. Michael Jackson's obsession with 10 year olds is very much a part of who he was and part of the legacy he left behind. But this Disney-obsessed crowd wants to wash all that away because EO was once part of the fabric of WDW. I'll bet that if Six Flags or Universal wanted to revive an old MJ attraction, opinions would be different. But Disney can do no wrong, hence Michael Jackson's legal issues have nothing to do with who he was.

For my daughter, the legal issues Michael Jackson had, have nothing to with him as an artist. She knows nothing of it. So no, it did not come out wrong by me at all. You obviously have other issues with him / the attraction which I have no desire to get involved with.

There is a big difference between "my daughter doesn't know about his legal issues" and "legal issues have nothing to do with who a person is". I think you meant the former, so yes, it did come out in an unintended way. Your daughter probably knows nothing about OJ Simpson's legal issues but I'd bet you'd agree that those issues now largely define him.

Like I've said MULTIPLE TIMES - For MY DAUGHTER Michael Jackson's legal issues have no effect on her, or on who he is as an artist. Stop trying to tell me I don't know what the heck I'm saying. I KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING!!!!!!!

I think what you meant to say is....lol. Sorry I had to. This back and forth has to be frustrating!

Michael Jackson wasn't convicted of anything. He still has fans. Disney is choosing not to ban him. I still don't like EO, but it doesn't have anything to do with legal issues.

I haven't seen Captain EO once, and still won't this August! I completely agree that movie trailers would be a better idea, or even show some of the Pixar shorts! Sorry to say it, but I think it wouldn't take much work to turn that theater into a new attraction that could take some of the pressure off of other attractions of the park, and they could probably do it quickly too!

I do wish they could restore more of the original 4D theater effects, though, speaking as a GenXer who never got to see the original as a kid.

I saw it when it originally came out and there were no 4D effects. It was strictly a 3D movie - no additional special effects like Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Those enhancements didn't come out until HISTA. We went to see Captain EO in December 2013 for nostalgia sake. Boy, has it not aged well. We enjoyed it when we first saw it but we laughed ourselves silly when we saw it again. The hair, the dated 3D, the music, the dancing - so dated. Bring back Honey!

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about seeing this again. My memory is getting pretty bad. For some reason I thought I saw it in 1981 on my senior trip to Disneyland. Now after finding out it didn't come out until 1986, I realize that I must have made a trip that I don't remember in 1986 while I was in the military and stationed in Arizona. To be fair, I must have gone with my ex-wife, and I've heard that the mind can block out traumatic events.

So if I can't even remember a trip to Disneyland, my fond memories of Cpt. EO might not live up to the harsh reality, and I'm not the person to listen to when it comes to the quality of the show. I only hope that when I see it again it doesn't trigger other memories that are better left buried.

I mean until they've got something better to replace it with, im ok with this. I saw it when iw as 2 in 1988, my brother was 7 and a BIG MJ fan. I saw it again a couple of years ago, and i can't wait to see it once again WITH my brother this year. That's going to be pretty awesome.

Firstly, yes, of course it's dated. That's part of its charm. They were nice enough to bring it back after he died, and they just haven't gotten around to making a new attraction. Blame Disney for that (and for what it's worth, they DID use the theater to preview upcoming Disney films a few times). But there's nothing wrong with leaving it in there. It's not hurting your life or vacation in any way, shape, or form. I honestly can't believe you actually wrote that despite all of the things Disney World has to offer (4 theme parks, water parks, dining and shopping options, night clubs, golfing, hotels, camping, etc etc) that leaving a 3D movie is gonna ruin your trip. O lawdy...

In any case, Captain EO is a helluva lot better than that awful Honey I Shrunk The Audience.

With love, l.o.v.e. :)
