There really isn't a way that this thread is not going to end up political but here is as non-political a view as I can get.

This was an inevitability because of the massive division within the USA. This is the direct result of the vast division between the two sides which meant that this was the end game no matter what. There was no way that the transfer of power was going to be peaceful.
