I am overdue for an out of the house vacation. DH just had a week of vacation but since I just started a new part time job I was working the entire time and he was playing video games the whole week.. I thought I could handle another year at home but I'm going crazy. I need to get away even if it's just for a couple nights. So I was thinking of driving the hour to get to the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and then stay 2 nights in the Cape May area.

I really would like to go to the beach and zoo anywhere else is up in the air. Are there inexpensive hotels in the area? What can you recommend? Anything to avoid? I've never stayed in the area. We have been to the zoo once before and stayed at Atlantic City but DO NOT wish to revisit there.. How much should I expect to pay for night in the area. Anywhere else you could suggest near the ferry to lodge besides Cape May? Not really picky just want it cheap and "on the right side of the tracks"!

Thanks for any help!

YAY..born and raised Cape May girl here, now living in FL...

The Cape May County Zoo is tons of fun. I going there. You also could go to Wildwood, and sure you could find something reasonable there, and its an easy drive from the ferry.

Sorry I cannot offer info on pricing, as I have never stayed in a hotel in my home town, but I know a lot of the hotels in Wildwood are really nice.

As a former local though, feel free to ask anything

We just got back from Wildwood, check out Moreypiers.com. We highly recommend the blue palms for reasonable rates & great proximity to everything! We go every year & love it. :beach:

We were thinking of going to Cape May too---used to vacation there every summer till we discovered WDW. Most of the hotels require a three night min. stay in the summer. Some of the B&B's might not have a min. requirement. We liked Mt. Vernon and the Victorian. You can find a pretty good list on capemaytimes.com. We used to rent a house for a week and then stayed in motels/hotels for 3-4 days. Shop around, the rates can be expensive and some of the places are not that nice--run down, dirty rooms, that sort of thing. Narrow it down to a few places and then call them direct. Good luck!

You may have a very difficult time finding a vacancy this time of year.

If you plan on taking your car on the ferry don't forget to budget $44 each way! Can't help with budget accomodations. We stayed at Congress Hall which was divine.

We just got back from Cape May. Stayed 3 nights at the Capri Motor Lodge on Beach Avenue. It's directly across from the beach and convenient to restaurants. It's a bit of a hike to the mall, but if you eat at the Island Grill, they have their own parking lot. Enjoy dinner and then leave your car there while you enjoy the shops at the mall. The Capri Motor Lodge is in the process of renovating and some of the renovated rooms are really nice. Not sure of pricing as we were a group of about 15 and the price was spread across several rooms and the group. They do have a website if you want to check it out.
