So I have reservations for Cape May in Sept during Free Dining although we are not on free dining. Is it better than most Disney buffetts or is it you typical loud and over crowded type of place. Do you have to wait long for crab legs?

I hate Chef Mickey's but I love Seafood and have heard good things about Cape May. Just wondering if I will like the atmosphere

You do know that there are no characters for the dinner right? The only reason why I ask is because you mention Chef Mickey's and Cape May in the same sentence.

I've heard terrific things about Cape May's dinner though. I haven't eaten there myself, but I wouldn't put the Cape May dinner in the same class as Chef Mickey's dinner. Completely different.

I would highly recommend Cape May. The food is above average for a buffet, and the wait staff seem a lot more knowledgable, as if they put their "seasoned veterans" there.

The only unfortunate thing I'd say about the place are those few guests "hovering" to get crab/clams, like the ones that wait around at Cosco for the free samples. They bring out a lot of crab, and quite often, but there are some people that just don't share well.

The volcano cakes are amazing for dessert as well.

We tried Cape May clambake for the 1st time last summer-we love the bfast there but I always avoided dinner because my son and I don't like seafood.

We loved it-aside from Le Cellier it was my fav meal of the trip. Excellent salads and the mac-n-cheese was really good. The desserts are awesome-oreo bon bons, peanut buter tart, mini cupcakes, choc cakes Yum :thumbsup2

Buffets as a rule can be busy and perhaps loud, and I think in this way, Cape May is not an exception. It is busy and depending on where you sit & when you dine it can be loud I guess, but this has never been an issue for us. I find it less busy and loud than say, Ohana.

The atmosphere is beachy and cute. We never had to wait for crab legs to be refilled, they were always available during our meal.

Just a note, last time I was there they had removed the volcano cakes. Oreo bonbons are still in full force though!

It's great there. Our favorite buffet on property by far. I find it to be less chaotic and quieter than other buffets for sure. The tables are laid out well and the staff is always helpful and friendly.

I have yet to hear a bad thing about it from anyone who has dined there.

Unfortunately, their warm chocolate lava cakes are no longer there. We just ate there last week. Our waitress tried to tell us that it was because the oreo bon bons were more popular. She finally said it was because now they no longer had to have someone stand there and make them. Other than that, the buffet was excellent. There were times it got pretty crazy up by the buffet, but other times it was pretty quiet.

we went in May and the buffet was pretty good......clams were different then Maine steamers......but other then that the atmosphere and the buffet area was very nice.....have a good time..

We enjoy Cape May- A LOT! Love the food, wait staff and the decor. We really enjoy coloring on the white butcher paper that's there.... at least it was there in '08.

Do they still have this?

We were at Cape May three weeks ago and all of us enjoyed our meals. There were 5 adults and 2 children. I feel that the seating was a bit more spaced out than CP but more on par with Chef Mickey's where I feel the tables are not on top of each other.

The food was good there was always a line for the buffet of about 10 people but it moved fairly quickly. We noticed that as we sat at the table the later it got 7:00 pm or so the more it seemed to slow down and things did not feel as rushed as when we first arrived.

Yes, you can still draw on the butcher block paper. We played many games of hangman. :)

I have a few pictures if you would like to see them let me know.

We LOVED the Cape May Clambake during our trip earlier this month. So much so that I'm a bit sad we've not been before now. My husband loved the crab, I loved all the salads and the mashed potatoes. YUM! My girls (3 and 7) found plenty to eat as well. They highly recommend the mac and cheese. :thumbsup2 We've done Chef Mickey's and I have vowed we'd not go back. Skip Chef Mickey's and head to the clambake. Honestly, it was refreshing not to have to deal with the characters and just enjoy the food.

I agree with PP who said there was always a line, but it went quick.

Just a note about the "loudness", it's not character meal crazy. But they opened up the side room (used to be something else - can't remember the name) for additional dining seating. The acoustics in the side room aren't as good as the main room (tile floors), so it can feel noisier in there without the sound absorbtion.

The crab legs are great and they are almost always full. The place does not have characters so I do not find it noisy.

The only three buffets I like at WDW are Cape May, Boma, and Biergarten. I don't eat crab legs, but have never seen anyone waiting on them. My husband loves them and always gets plenty.

It is good, better than most buffets, but if you are a seafood lover you may be a bit disappointed as all of the seafood is frozen.

Salads and desserts are great.

Main stream meats are very "meh."
