Can anyone tell me what the clam bake at the beach club is like? We're considering booking it for this summer but I would love some opinions first

If you like seafood, and aren't a New Englander, then I think you'll like it. If you aren't a seafood lover, not sure why you would pick this particular place:confused3, but there are non-seafood selections available. If you are a New Englander, then you may turn up your nose at the quality:snooty:. But given that it IS a buffet, I think it is just fine!:thumbsup2

Opinions: 4 (You asked!)

Objective discriptions:0;)

We're English so we don't get all that much seafood at home. Coming to Florida is our chance for all the yummy seafood we can't get at home :goodvibes

Being from New England, I used to love this buffet and made sure to go once each trip. They have now added crab legs and a few other things but the price has gone through the roof!!

I no longer look forward to this restaurant.

We're Southern, so our idea of seafood is fried, calabash style (from our particular region of the South). The first time we went to Cape May I was pretty young and don't even remember it. Mom wasn't happy b/c it wasn't a seafood buffet like at the beach.

A few trips ago, tho, we decided to give it another try, and we really liked it! The non-seafood selections are really good, and there are a lot of choices, no matter what kind of food you like.

We're going back this trip, and we're looking forward to it. It's good eats; you should check it out. :hippie:

Could you tell me about the non-seafood items?

My kids somehow haven't gotten our seafood obsession-- strange, living on an island! Anyway, my 11 year old is pretty picky. So I can only book if the non-seafood items are decent.

Any input?

Two words...Oreo Bon-bons! I think that's two words! ;)
Best dessert at WDW! We love this place...something for everyone!

The food was OK. Not great, not bad, but OK. If you are from England and do not have access to seafood buffets you will like it. The crab legs were good, but a little on the small side. The mussels were quite good. The brisket (steak?) was on the tough side, but tasty. The cornbread was excellent. The deserts were excellent.

I didn't like it. It was just ok. There are far better places to eat near there - especially if you have a park hopper then just go to Epcot!

There is plenty for non-seafood eaters (my husband doesn't like seafood and he loves this buffet). They have carved beef and pork, BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes, corn and other veggies, cheese pizza and the best chicken nuggets on property. There is a great variety of salads and delicious soft rolls and corn bread. And the mini-desserts are fantastic.

We'll be there in 2 weeks...can't wait!

Wow... I had no idea it was tht extensive.

Hmmmm, this may make a difference in my plans.

Thanks so much for the info!!!

We had it booked for our trip last October and almost cancelled it because we were afraid there wouldn't be enough non-seafood for our picky son. So glad we didn't cancel! We LOVED it! One of the highlights of our trip! We ended up cancelling another ADR for our last night so we could eat here again and it was just as good the second time. The atmosphere is very nice: very bright with an old-time beachy/boardwalk feel. I have shellfish allergies, so I had to stay away from the crab, but my daughter and husband ate a ton. There are a number of different salads (potatos, lettuce types and pastas), soups, some sort of beef and also something else? at a carving station, a delicious baked fish, amazing garlic mashed potatoes (my favorite food on the buffet), corn on the cob, rolls, a number of different seafood items, and other things that I can't remember. My son mostly ate off of the kids area which had pizza, mac n cheese, veggies, etc. There is a separate dessert bar with the standouts for our family being the key lime tarts and the oreo bonbons. It was our favorite restaurant of our nine dining plan nights and is on our "for sure" list for our next trip.

You should check out some of the dining reviews. I think it is MickeyNicki who has some really great pictures of the food on the buffet.

We did the Cape May Cafe for the first and last time in Aug. of 2009. IT WAS HORRIBLE!! First, we had an 8:15pm reservations and didn't get seated until 9:30pm!!!! I am not a seafood eater, but my husband is and he said it was horrible. There are so many other great places to eat - try Coral Reef or Fulton's Crab House.

This is my husband's "must do" restaurant every trip. Whenever I ask him what he'd like to do at Disney, he replies, "Cape May Cafe."

Here's a mini review, with lots of photos, from our dinner in July 2010:

Cape May Cafe New England Clam Bake Dinner: Unlike the usual buffet set-up, this restaurant features a central island where the selections are displayed. There are large steam trays that are continuously filled with snow crab legs, clams and mussels. These popular items are always available hot and freshly prepared.

Other offerings on the buffet:

The restaurant, and the food, did not disappoint!

The only complaint is that Mark and I both spent a lot of time helping Ben with his crab legs and other seafood. Ben eats a lot and it was really difficult to keep up with him! By the time we started our meals, the boys were already onto dessert and were getting restless, so we hurried through our meal. Everything was really really good. And this endorsement comes from a lifelong New Englander!

The restaurant recently introduced a new dessert, warm lava cakes which are made almost to order. People have raved about them, but I thought they were just ok.

The Oreo Bon-Bons, though, I enjoyed a lot more this year. This photo is from the Concierge Lounge, I didn’t get a good picture of them from the buffet.

We will try Cape May for the first time in a few weeks and we can't wait!
