Cape May Cafe & Boatwrights - Opinions needed

I'm booking my ADR's for May. We are staying at POR Riverside, and DH thought it would be nice and convenient to eat at the hotel on our last night.

I don't want to waste our last night dinner on a place that is just convenient, and was thinking of Cape May Cafe.

Both restaurants are new to us. Cape May Cafe would get us over to Beach Club, and I'd like to check out that resort for future stays.

So just wanted your opinions, where would you rather eat?

Or feel free to recommend any other 1 credit TS on the DDP. thanks!

I can speak only for cape may. It was ok. I'm not a big buffet person; so it was just so so-probably won't go back. A lot of people do like it though. I do like Kona cafe @ poly and even though it is a buffet- love love Boma @AKL- great resort to roam around. Have also tried the captain grille @ YC and it was good-not great but good. Had crab legs they where ok but my friend has the pasta special and it was great. Hope this helps

thanks, Nicole, that does help a lot. I was also considering the Captain's Grill at YC.

My objective this trip is to try all new restaurants ... no repeats! I've been to Kona and Boma ... love them both! I'm not sure if I'm a buffet person really. It could be wonderful, if done right ... but could also go horribly wrong. I really didn't like the 1900 Park Fare Buffet, and swore I'd never do another Disney buffet again.

I ate at Cape May last november and I was very disappointed in it. Not what everyone was raving about as far as I was concern. As for Boatwrite's I would prefer one of the Downtown Disney places over this. I liked Wolf Gang Express and really enjoyed T-Rex. Hope this helps you.

Cape May is alright if you like seafood and don't mind the hustle and bustle of buffets (we are personally not fans of them for the most part), plus it gives you a chance to walk around the Boardwalk if you wanted. Boatwright's is ok if you are staying on site and have no plans on leaving the resort that night. The food isn't awful but it isn't anything that great either, especially when there are so many other options at WDW.

DTD- Ragland Road is pretty good. The bread pudding is really good.

WPE- Is good if you decide to make a different ADR and want to use a CS credit.

AKL- Sanaa and Boma (buffet) are both good options at the AKL area. There are some activities after dinner that you can do, plus AKL is a beautiful resort to check out.

Kona, Grand Floridian Cafe and The Wave are all also restaurants I would suggest over Boatwright's.

Cape May was a surprisingly great dinner for my family. Let me start off by saying that I am a vegetarian, my husband is a meat and potatoes guy and my 15 year old son is willing to try just about everything. We all managed to find things we really enjoyed here. I loved the variety of salads and vegetables, my husband was happy with the "land" part of the buffet and my son tried just about everything from salads to crab legs. Both my husband and my son loved the soups as well. Everyone was able to pick and choose from a good selection of food. We are going back again this year, but instead of dinner we'll be going for breakfast but had we had another opportunity for a dinner this trip we'd be happy to go back to Cape May.

I don't have any experience with Boatwrights, but we'd like to try it sometime in the future. The menu sounds good and the resort is lovely.

thanks for all of the opinions. My dh really liked the buffet menu at Cape May, so I think I will stick with it and give it a try.

I've never seen Beach Club and I've never walked in the Boardwalk area, so we'd like to do some exploring there.

Beach Club is great and we really like Cape May Cafe. And you can always wander over to Beaches for dessert. Yum

Cape May Clam Bake is a must-do every trip for us. DD & I love the steamers (well, they're not really steamers to a New Englander, but are steamed clams because they are little necks/quahogs). DD usually has about 10 PAILS of steamed clams. Because we love them so much, we're very happy that it's a buffet. We're not big buffet fans either.

Since no one has mentioned Boatwright's I will! My husband and I have stayed at POR 3 times in the last couple of years and have gone to Boatwright's all three times. The food is wonderful and have always had a great meal there. If you like Cajun flare to your food I highly recommend it!

Love Cape May! It is always fun for us and my kids love the food there. We have booked it for our last night at Disney and it will be my brother's first visit there. Hope they have extra crab legs that night

I've been to Boatwright's once, and I thought the food was very good also. There are also many non-Cajun options, too, if you don't like Cajun. You also get cornbread when you are seated, which is nice when you are hungry now! I thought the food was just as good or better than many other Disney restaurants I've been to. BUT, if you'd rather go somewhere with more atmosphere, this might not be your first choice. It is a small restaurant and it's not exactly exciting there.

That said, I am going to eat there again when we stay at POR next.
