Cape May 6-13-07 Not Good

I am sooooo GLAD that I didn't make this an ADR...It was on my list and Like most of you I am from The south shore of Boston. We owned a local fish market and the buffet didn't impress me after reading about it. We also said not a clam bake. Thanks to all those wonderful South shore people:cool1:

Come back to the cape!

Nope, not going to happen. Too many tourists in the summer, too cold in the winter.

If you want a real old fashioned bake, try to get tickets to the Redman's bake in Wareham or the Carver Firefighters bake in Carver. You can still get tickets to the Carver Old Home bake this month, it's just like the firefighters bake (although I won't be there to help make the clam dressing). Real clams , White and Sweet Potatoes, Onions, Corn on the Cob, Fish, Hot Dogs, Sausages, Brown Bread, Clam Dressing. Everything steamed on rocks heated by a wood bonfire and then covered with seaweed. Watermelon for dessert. ( We don't do chowder or Lobster just because we never have)

Ok, I just made myself homesick for New England and I'm drooling on the keyboard.

I have eaten a cape may at least 4 times for dinner and 2 or 3 times for breakfast. I never had any problems with service, and my wife and I both enjoyed the food. Personally, I love their clam chowder. It may not be classic New England style, but I enjoy it. It has a little kick from the Tabasco in the recipe. I also enjoy the clams, but the maple glazed salmon is a favorite of my wife and I.

Uggg, I was really trying to decide between Cape May and Crystal Palace...

Crystal Palace looks to have odd different food, so I thought I;d Try Cape May, but myself and my parents like good seafood...doesn't sound like Cape May will provide that...

You do realize this Cape May review is from a year ago...:confused3

I don't think that it has changed since last year. The food is just OK in our opinion. The seafood is not as good as what we have around home at the Chinese Buffets. Crystal Palace has a better selection and the food tastes better. If we get a real urge for seafood we eat off site at the all you can eat lobster place.

DH never thought the clams were rubbery and only once a bit sandy ...I remember when we went to Gloucester and my dad got the steamers they gave him to styrofoam cups one with hot water and one with drawn butter. You dip the clam in the hot water first to rinse off any sand and then in the butter, so DH asked the waitress for a cup of hot water and she brought it out right away....that took care of the sand problem.

I really enjoy the restaurant even the small clams:) We have found that the waiters are usually great. We always leave at least 20% because they work so hard. I dont eat everything on the buffet but really enjoy it anyway. I have been there at least a dozen times and found the food quite good. I like the clams( although they are small) mussels and shrimp. I had talipia one night that was fantastic. I enjoy the salad bar with its many offerings, mashed potatoes, chicken and always raid the kids section for its chicken fingers, little hotgogs and macaroni and cheese. There is so much to pick from this is just a small sample. It is always very busy so someone likes the food there. We eat here as well as Bomas every trip.

We ate there last night and I hated it. It was bad all around, even the desserts were bad. At least our company was good. Breakfast there is much better, plus you get characters.

We won't be going back for dinner there again, ever.
