Cape Cod Travel

Thinking of heading to Cape Cod for a week in August. I've been searching the web and the sites I'm finding aren't real informative. Anyhow travel there in the last few years, if so where'd you stay-- what did you do?? Thanks.

Stayed at my brothers house......Played golf. That probably doesn't help much....

Hi there I grew up on Cape COd still go once a month every month. What town are you looking to stay in and what do you want to do? What season? Hope I can help.

There are several board members who actually live on the Cape so maybe they'll come along with much more insight than I have.

We love the Cape and now that we have a child we stay in Orleans. When it was just DH and I we stayed in various B&B's in Chatham.

It's near some wonderful ocean beaches many nice bay ones as well. It's about 45 min from P-town and 30 min from Hyannis. It's also near the bike trail that was laid on the now defunct railroad tracks. You can rent bikes at several places and ride all over.

Hyannis has nice harbor cruises and P-town offers whale watching excursions. We were there in July a few years ago and saw tons of whales.

We stay in the Skaket Beach Motel. It's not fancy but it is clean and near a lot of stuff. They have a 1 bedroom apt which is what we book. The room rate includes continental breakfast.

P.S. Your MIL will HATE Cape Cod . I read your trip reports today and while they were very entertaining I'm sorry you had such a rough time.

You're not taking your MIL, are you????? (Sorry, after reading your trip reports I just couldn't resist!

My IL's live on the Cape (Orleans) so that is where we go a lot. We have also gone down on our own a few times. Our kids are 5 & 9 and they like The Cape Codder in Hyannis. It has a neat pool area with 2 slides and a small wave pool. Nothing like Typhoon Lagoon, but still fun. It is also in a very busy place with lots of things to do and places to eat close by.

We love to play Mini Golf and our last trip down we went on the duck tour out of Hyannis. You can also take the ferries to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. Depends on what kinds of things you like to do.

Love Cape Cod. We've stayed in Falmouth (all the way at one end), Dennisport (close to the middle) and Eastham (closer to the other end of Provincetown). Cape Cod is a pretty cool place and bigger than you think. There's lots of wonderful shops, whale watching and don't forget the drive in double feature.

It all depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for. If you want more entertainment, then head for Falmouth or Hyannis. Even Dennis or Yarmouth. But, if you're looking for more quiet and a laid back type stay, then head for Eastham on down to P'Town. Yes, there will still be a lot of traffic anywhere. But we prefer Eastham. My inlaws are in Osterville which is midway between Falmouth and Hyannis.
Let us know if there is a particular area and we can go from there. Maybe you could get a guide book and that would help you decide which area.

I have a house on Cape Cod.. I love it here, and depending on how far you want to travel to experience the Cape, we could recommend some places for you to stay. Just remember this the summer on Cape Cod is very crowded, traffic jams galore, and not easy to get around.. For those of us who live here, we do our daily errands before the traffic gets heavy and then just sort of settle in at home or at the beach during the day.

Not too far from where I live there is an area called New Seabury that does rentals.. You could look under that name or Mashpee or Falmouth with a google search and find information on those areas.

Of course you can also go further into the Cape.. there are some beautiful towns, Brewster, Orleans, Truro, Chatham, Dennis, just to name a few.. look under any of these for information. Good luck..

If you give me an idea of what you like to do for fun, relax or keep busy, adult trip or with kids and what type of dining. Fancy or budget or a mixture of everything.

What part of the Cape are you interested in going to.
I agree with above poster Cape Codder is nice and they have a great Spa!
We have lived in Dennis for over 20 years and are most familiar with Hyannis, Harwich, Brewster, and Chatham areas the most, as far as dining out.
DH and I love to play tourist here in the summertime, we go mini- golfing and sunset sailing etc...

We've been three times. Once we stayed in North Truro (near P'town) in a motel--the Blue something. Sorry, can't remember the name. Right on the beach.

Twice we've gone with friends and rented homes. That was a lot of fun. One of the homes was walking distance to the beach. If you wanted to go this route, you could try www.vrbo.com.

Good luck. If we don't do our first camping trip to Disney this August, we are going to camp on the cape instead.

First-- the MIL is DEFINETLY NOT COMING!!! Thinking of a more relaxing trip. Looking at the last full week in July (Before DS starts football practice). I looked at some rental cottages in the Hyannis area but they were 6000-8000 for a week. I thought it was a joke!!! I sent away for a brochure/tourism book, but it's gonna take 6-8 weeks. I'm too impatient, I wanna start planning now !!

Things we definelty want to do:

Relax, Whale Watch, shop for unusal things, I thought I seen something somewhere about riding in 4x4's over sand dunes???, also would like to check out some of the lighthouses (seen some of this on the travel channel, but they didn't say where they exactly where). The #1 priority is to relax though. We want to be able to get up when we want, then go on about our day.

It will be ONLY DH, me and DS (11). Any tips and or advice would be appreciated. THANKS!!!!!

I live on Cape Cod and if you're interested in the Whale Watching aspect I would definitely recommend going to the lower cape.

Whale Watching tours depart from Barnstable harbor as well as Provincetown which is all the way at the tip.
I would recommend Provincetown as a day trip but not as a place to stay.
The Barnstable area is a nice place to stay and I am particularly biased for Falmouth since that is where I live.

I would recommend calling the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and having them send you information if possible. I worked at the Falmouth Chamber of COmmerce and even as an employee found them to be very helpful.

We've been to the cape a few times and really love it. I haven't been there enough to give you any great advice, but the prices you quoted do seem to be unreasonable. Check out www.vrbo.com I haven't rented anything on Cape Cod except a motel room, but it looks like there are many choices for much less than $8,000.

I love this area! I was really impressed with Boston. Although It seems pretty expensive, even though I had a fifty percent off coupon for the hotel.

I went off season, so the cape was less crowded!
