Cape Canaveral Question

Tomorrow morning, we are flying to Orlando from Los Angeles to go to Disney World for the week. (I know, it's gonna be hot, humid and crowded!) I was considering driving to Cape Canaveral one day because I am hoping to see the Shuttle sitting on the launch pad. However, I don't know if it would be worth while. Would we be able to see it fairly well, or would it look like a little speck on the horizon? Also, is it a pretty easy drive from Orlando? I believe it's about 50 miles, but I don't know if the freeways would be jammed with traffic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Last time I went to Cape Canaveral was after the accident, so there weren't any shuttles out, but if you take the tour, they do have areas where you can look out on the launching pads. You don't get very close, but it wouldn't be a speck on the horizon. They're close enough to get a good look. They also have a mock up that you can walk inside of. It's a pretty easy trip. There's alot of interesting stuff to see, even when there isn't a shuttle out on the pad.

the kennedy space center tour is nice, but rather expensive as i recall, so be prepared...
it's also pretty much an all day experience...there is a ton to see there..

go to their website to read up on it..

we got there before opening, just like with the WDW theme parks and it's necessary since KSC gets so very crowded....

Yes you can see the shuttle on the launch pad but it is very far away from the viewing area. If you have a long telephoto lens or a pair of binoculars to see it better.

It is a great place to visit and take the tour.
