Canvas Tote bags

Hi, I know that when doing iron on transfers on tshirts that you need to always wash the tshirts first, What about tote bags? I want to put some pics on totes for MNSSHP so I need to know if I can just iron them on or do I need to wash the bags first.

I did not wash or iron the tote I made...purchased from Hobby Lobby. I'm not sure the exact blend of material it was (stiffer than an old fashioned book bag), but I should have turned the iron much lower than what I used for the t-shirts. The black showed through a bit, but it didn't bother me enough to re-do it.

Thank you for the tip of lowering the heat - my black still showed through too. I don't really care because they still look really cute.

Thanks for the thread. It's a tip I wouldn't have known. I'm making 50 welcome bags with transfers.
