Cantina de San Angel Refurb?

Good to hear they have a temporary kiosk set up during the refurb! Assuming they have the beer over there? I do enjoy the different Mexican beers you can get inside at the Tequila bar, but it's sort of a tradition to have that first Dos Equis from the Mexican stand!

When to they expect the refurb to be complete? I didn't even know they were doing it!

As far as I know, fiesta margaritas will still be available at the margarita stand near-by. Also, they've opened a new Cava del Tequila inside the Mexico pyramid, which is very good! Great margaritas. There's even a blog post about an avocado margarita they serve there.

Also, the Taqueria del Lago will be open for quick service food. This is the F&W Festival stand from October; it's become permanent as long as the Cantina is under refurb.

Any chance the Taqueria del Lago will accept the DDP since the Cantina will be closed and it accepted the DDP?

Visitors to Epcot's World Showcase will have a new dining option in the Mexico pavilion this fall. Cantina de San Angel, Mexico's quick-service restaurant, is being torn down to make way for a new, larger venue. The new 12,000-square-foot waterside restaurant will have 400 seats and will offer table service as well as counter service. The current restaurant is much smaller, at 3,500-square-feet and only offering 288 seats. The new venue is expected to be completed by the fall.

Wow, I'm going to miss La Cantina! I hope the food at the new one is just as yummy. I wonder when they'll start tearing it down?

Holy crap!! When does the tearing down start? I hope not until after June 2010!!! I love Cantina!!

The tearing down has started.

Apparently, until the new restaurant is open, you can order from a temporary stand. We love the Cantina, as well. We will try the stand next trip. I doubt the new restaurant will be open by our trip.

This story was the first time I have heard that it would contain both table service and quick service. It doesn't make sense to have two table services in Mexico, so now I'm confused.:confused3

How did I miss this???? Very bummed - we go next week and the Cantina is always on our "must-do" list. I love sitting out by the lagoon with a burrito and a marg.....oh well, guess it's just another reason to plan a return trip quick!

Any word on whether it's taking the DDP or not? I hope so!

I'm bummed about it too (for now, I'll love it once the new one opens)! I always hate it when something closes unexpectedly like that and I didn't know that the last time I was there would be the last time ever.

France and Japan both have two TS restaurants. Maybe they plan to leave San Angel Inn with the authentic Mexican food and serve TexMex at the new one. You hear alot of reports of people not liking San Angel Inn. Most Americans are more used to Tex Mex cruisine.

I love the idea of more seating with a possible view of Illuminations!

It's about time! The lines were always terrible, and there was never enough seating. This is good news!

That was my secret dinner spot to grab 45 minutes before Illuminations and just chill at a table while the Dbf made beer runs.

I hope its done by September.

It seems the Cantina may be more than what it once was. Here's an article on the possible refurb

Thanks for the link MJ.....interesting article.....now it all makes sense why its being shut down for at least 8 months, there is some extensive refurbishing going on.....

"new 400-seat, waterside restaurant that includes both table service and quick-service options.

Lake Buena Vista-based San Angel Inn LLC, Walt Disney World’s partner on the Epcot pavilion, is razing the existing 3,500-square-foot, 288-seat restaurant and will build a new 12,000-square-foot one set to open by this fall."

Sounds like it could be the most popular place to watch Illuminations once complete......which is a little disappointing to me because before, at least we had a good chance of finding a table an hour before the show, now we'll have to fight with the masses! :sad2:

I will be curious to see if all the waterfront seating (with an Illuminations view) becomes part of the TS restaurant...with the CS seating having no view.

I am always happy to get more dining options though, so I am all for a second TS location in Mexico, as long as they are also keeping the CS option. :goodvibes

Have there been a number of guests expressing disappointment about not being able to get one of those prime seats to watch Illuminations?

I don't know. I have read about people (here on the DIS) getting there way before Illuminations to save tables near the water. We have never done it. We go in the off season, for the most part, and usually watch from Germany. :confused3

I was just thinking that if Disney could get more people into the TS restaurant with hopes of Illuminations viewing, like with Rose and Crown, they will probably do it. ;)

This was the first I'd heard they were planning on including TS with the project. I thought it was just going to be a bigger CS place.

This is great news.:)

I have always thought there should be more lagoon-side Full Service restaurants.Rose and Crown will now have some company!:)

Just a guess, but I think Disney will try to provide as many tables as possible with views of World Showcase Lagoon.I think many of the CS tables will also be lagoon-side,but we will just have to wait and see.:)
