Cantina de San Angel Refurb?

If they have any business sense they won't put any windows overlooking the lake in the new restaurant. Disney would no doubt prefer to turn the tables over rather than have groups camping at them for an hour or two to see the fireworks. If you can't view Illuminations from inside the new restaurant I'd bet that's the reason.

We just got back home today and were drinking our way 'round Epcot yesterday :cool1:. I did indeed have a Fiesta margarita as it was the first day warm enough to have a frozen drink :)

I read about this about a week or more ago. My concern is this---
Will San Angel Inn inside the pavillion now close?
I love that romantic restaurant, and do not want it to close.
I wasn't planning on dining there this coming May trip, too short a time and a few other firsts for my daughter, but now question if I need to rearrange ADRs, in case it is our last chance to dine there.

What do you all think?
Will San Angel Inn close?

As far as I know, fiesta margaritas will still be available at the margarita stand near-by. Also, they've opened a new Cava del Tequila inside the Mexico pyramid, which is very good! Great margaritas. There's even a blog post about an avocado margarita they serve there.

Also, the Taqueria del Lago will be open for quick service food. This is the F&W Festival stand from October; it's become permanent as long as the Cantina is under refurb.

When I read that the Cantina was closing for several months while we are visiting, the first thing I thought of is, "Where am I gonna get my margarita?"

So thank you for relieving me of that major concern!!

Where is the Taqueria del Lago???

:yay:

I read somewhere that the cantina was supposed to open back up in late September. Also, when we were there at Thanksgiving, I asked if the stand took the DDP and they said no. The cantina was still open then so I don't know if that will change now that it's closed.

Does anyone know if there is a place around there to sit down and eat your food from the stand? :confused3

"A temporary booth will serve during this time" is posted for Cantina's Refurb schedule on www.stitchkingdom.com

Does anyone know if they have the full menu?

We've never eaten here (I know some reviews aren't great) but were going to use one of our CS lunches on Dining Plan. We love Mexican (semi-veg though so no beef/pork) but don't have any table service credits left.

They do not have the same menu as the cantina (the Taqueria's menu is even more limited), nor has anyone reported back to say whether or not they accept the dining plan to my knowledge (although my guess is that they do - keep in mind that there appears to be no child's menu, so even children can order from the regular menu on DDP if they take it).

trust me the fact that the cantina is in refurb is a good thing. When we were there in dec we decided to use one of our quick service meal credits at the cantina. the food was just horrible! :scared1::scared1: we are thankful we had the free dining plan and didnt waste our $ here. seriously disney should be ashamed on what they serve here. I am hopeful that with the refurbishment the food will get better as well.

The Cantina used to be awesome, but last time we were there they had totally reduced the menu (THANKS A LOT dining plan! ) No more combination plate, which is what I always used to get.

I tried the new quickservice stand back in November-- got the quesadilla-- and it was better than anything the rest of my family ordered from Cantina de San Angel. Too expensive though, for what you get.

The Cantina has been a great favorite of ours for the last few years. We have found the food to be excellent for quick service, and with decent portions. :thumbsup2

Nope, there was no seating area when I was there on Monday.

Thanks for that info.....I guess we'll just have to find a bench to sit at or maybe we'll take a hike over to the African Outpost area where they have tables and chairs.....:scratchin

I don't think there is any chance the San Angel Inn will close.:)

Precedent has already been set for Pavilions to have 2 Full Service restaurants.(Japan and France):)

excellent point about the lack of kid's menu. can anyone confirm ddp being accepted?

The new 12,000-square-foot waterside restaurant will have 400 seats and will offer table service as well as counter service.

Wow...it's obviously very early. I skimmed through this and at first read "12,000-square-foot waterSLIDE restaurant." Now wouldn't that be something...

I can't believe how fast they're planning on tearing this thing down and bringing it back up for service! Perhaps I'll pay it a visit for our 2011 trip to see how things have gone. Now I know I'm spoiled having such access to the real thing, but the food...BLECH! Worse than Taco Bell, which is its own low-water mark. Considering I can get cheap, kick-rear carnitas from a trailer for petes sake, you'd think Disney could manage something better. Though to be fair, I really don't think the complaints have to do with "authentic" vs. tex-mex vs. CA-baja, whichever, it's just a flat out quality issue overall. I hope we see some changes/improvements: a new building with the same old food is just slapping perfume on a skunk.

AFAIC, the quality there was always just fine. We brought guests with us there twice, in recent years, and no one was disappointed in the slightest. We knew exactly what we were getting, and we got it. The food there was never "worse than Taco Bell" AFIAC, and indeed was pretty-much as good as the best Taco Bells we've been to, which was precisely what we were expecting based on an understanding of what we offered there.

I do agree that if you were expecting something much better than Taco Bell, you surely would have been disappointed!

And going forward, when the quick service portion reopens, I wouldn't expect any change in food quality in that regard, and for the table service, I would be expecting, FWIR, something comparable to my local Tex-Mex chain restaurant, which I'd be very happy to try out on our next visit.

the quality there was OK, but it wasn't anything special.
