Can't Sleep?

O.K., I just turned 40 something and have made over 8 trips to WDW including four in 2001-2002 (getting my money's worth on those annual passes). I plan each trip way in advance - usually 11 months ahead. YET, with my next trip "home" in just two days, I wake up around 3 a.m. and can't get back to sleep - can only lay there and think about the trip.

Does anyone else have this happen to them? Do I need to seek help (or maybe just grow up some)? By the way, my DW and two DD's don't have this problem.

There was a Disney World commercial sort of like this-- the father was scolding the kids for not going to sleep and they said they were too excited because they were going to WDW tomorrow. He told them to go to sleep anyway, then he laid there awake and his wife said, "Can't sleep?" :D

I know the feeling well.

We had an early flight out last August. We had to be up around 4:00 to get ready to go. I woke up around 2:00. I noticed my husband started stirring more than usual around 2:30. We laid in bed until about 3:30 talking, then decided to just get up and get ready! :) We were going without the kids this time and I think we were a bit too excited! :) (turns out we missed the kids more than we thought)

It usually starts about 2 weeks before for me. Between trying to get everything caught up at work and getting stuff packed, I am a wreck! I'm also so paranoid that something is going to go wrong and we willn't be able to go. It actually happened once - six years ago we cancelled a trip the day before leaving due to illness (pre-DVC).

Okay, here's the solution.

Tape that infomercial they run on the WDW room TV's about the DVC.

Put it on a continuous loop. Soon you'll be dreaming of WDW & DVC (hey, that's what a lot of people said it did for them!). If you're dreaming, your sleeping. Problem solved! :D

I think we found several people on this board with recordings of that infomercial.

Having trouble sleeping tonight myself....now where did I put that tape (uh oh....busted!).

Hey Granny, you're just trying to drum up business selling that tape so you can afford more points! I'm onto your little game..... :p

We don't leave for 119 days and already having troble sleeping. We have all the tapes but wish DVC would put out a DVD for us. We are taking my brother and his family for their first trip and he is having a much worse time. :smooth:

We go home in 91 days, 22 hours and 28 minutes and I waking up at 2 a.m. thinking about all the stuff I need to do before we leave

We are taking our whole family (my parents and brothers and their families) to BWV. This will be the first time we will all be together at WDW and it's to mark my turning the big 4-0:earseek:

I have found, when I can't sleep, if I start walking through the MK in my mind, paying attention to every detail, that I drift off pretty fast.

Actually, when I went to the doctors and explained that I was having trouble sleeping he asked me if I did any meditation or relaxation exercises. When I told him about my virtual MK stolls he laughed and said "Why doesn't that surprise me?" He knows about my WDW addiction, lol!

OK, I guess it's alright to admit to this obsession. After all, we're family, right?

Our next trip is scheduled for the end of June. I review three guide books almost every day as if something new will jump from the pages. I listen to that Disney music Web site (http://www.live365.com/stations/disneytrips). I listen to the Millennium Celebration CD in the car. I doodle outlines of Mickey during meetings in the office. And I spend a lot of time picturing myself and my family in various Disney settings. I just asked my husband for Disney jewelry to get me through the wait. He asked if I was getting on the next plane to Orlando. People in the office must endure my stories of past Disney trips and planned Disney trips, and, oh yes, I have the 2003 trip planned as well.

I must say I enjoy the planning and anticipation of the trips. It makes the magic of the trips just last so much longer. And it truly adds a sparkle to an ordinary day.

Planning is the best part before I actually get there. Luckily this year I have a March trip in 6 days and an October trip. So I'm actually working on two trips at the same time.

I've been up the past few nights dreaming about what we are going to go and when.....

sssshhhhh....you don't have to tell EVERYBODY! :p

Anyway, no court would ever convict me for drumming up some sales to get more DVC points! :D

94 days, 12 hours, 22 minutes, 35 seconds until DVC trip #1. :earseek:

When I wake up and can't go back to sleep, it happens often :( , I grab my DVC book and look at stuff I've looked at hundreds of times before. just like LUVDVC! In fact I bought two new editions of WDW books today! We're not going until Oct, don't even ressies yet, so waking up is just something I do :( Last night it was my dog barking! Sometimes I do the virtual trip thru a park thing. Oh, is there any help for us? :)

Maybe we don't want help to undo our obsession. Maybe we just want support. I can't tell you how much comfort I've taken in reading this thread. There are others just like us! And I love the mental images and the planning and the anticipation. And best of all, I love knowing that there is always a next trip, each one glorious!

Every time my husband asks me what I want as a gift (birthday, anniversary, etc.), I say, "More DVC points." I want to know there is no end in sight.

I showed DH this thread, and he said, "Hey, we have the DVC video. Maybe we ought to call for a new one." Of course, when the video opens with "If you believe in magic..." I scream, "I do; I do."

None of my friends understand. But, apparently, the people on this thread do, and I feel much, much better now. Thank you.

My husband I did the same thing. (down the the hour)! LOL. We finally just got up and got ready early. Turns out it was a good thing we had extra time. (this was our first trip with a baby!) I love that comerical also!!!!!

LUVDVC, I knwo what you mean. My friends and family do not get how important WDW is to my husband and I and why we love it so much. (Most haven't been there or stayed at WDW.) The online boards let me know, WE ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!

last night both my husband and I had dreams about going to WDW. The funny things is since we last went in Dec, we don't get to go again until March, 2003. Next week is my husband's spring break (he teachs college, he is the PhD, not me). We normally go then. I am missing it already! I hope I can make it to next spring break!

I'm just like vacationman. I'll be taking a trip to WDW next week to celebrate my "birthday" (I'm a leap year baby so I really don't have a birthday this year). I have had the hardest time sleeping! I go over my packing list constantly, fearing that I'm going to forget something. I can't wait until next week for my first stay at OKW and the Hilton!!

Now that I am back (already), I have more memories that will keep me from sleeping even longer before the next trip:

Being Flag Family at the Wilderness Lodge on our last morning there and meeting "Ranger Stan" - my nominee for best Cast Member ever! Priceless.

Watching my two daughters on stage at the Polynesian Review learning to hula dance. And, the food was not bad!

Being given three huge chocolate chip cookies to "make up for" an under done chicken sandwich at Roaring Forks. Love how Disney folks are empowered to make it right.

Riding around in the water mice (with my 12 year old driving!!!) all the way from WL to the Magic Kingdom.

Walking right on to Spash Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad even though we got there way after opening.

After hearing from the others like me on this thread, I now have some hope that I can still consider myself somewhat normal. Thanks to all.

By the way - just bought enough points to double our annual allotment so many more sleepless nights are ahead!!!!
