Can't "preview" thread by putting mouse on it - have to open thread

I think my title says it all. I can no longer just put my mouse over a thread to see if I want to open that thread or not. Don't know if it's just me or if others are having this problem. It's such a nuisance to have to open a thread only to find out you're not at all interested in it.

Any ideas anyone?

I have a new laptop running windows 8 - i no longer have the mouse over preview either.
