ok I am no comp guru!! does anybody know why or have any ideas why all of a sudden I cant get on line with IE I can get on through safari but not loving it. what else can I do??

That happened to me, I just uninstalled IE and reinstalled the newest version. Worked just fine.

I agree with the pp's, either uninstall IE then re-install and or install Fire fox, you can have more than one browser to choose from on for your computer.

I'd suggest Google Chrome. Firefox has become slow and bloated over the years (come to think of it, so have I).

If you can't get online with Browser A, but can with Browser B... that is a huge warning sign. Uninstalling and reinstalling is probably just resetting some options that have been changed by you accidentally or possibly by malware of some sort. Simply switching to a new browser is ignoring the problem.

There are a million reasons one browser might not be able to get online. But here is a really quick method to try and fix IE.

1. Use IE 8. If you aren't up to date, you are asking for trouble.
2. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset Internet Options
3. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Click Internet Globe -> Reset All Zones to Default Levels

That happened to me last July. I've been using Safari and Firefox ever since....

Yes, a few weeks ago we couldn't go online with IE or Google Chrome, only Firefox. We tried lots of antivirus programs as well as uninstalling/reinstalling. Turns out it was malware--spybot search & destroy was the only program that found it, here's a link: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Thirding the "it might be malware" opinion.

When I ran into trouble, I installed and ran Stinger and then Malwarebytes. Once I cleaned up the virus issue, both IE and Firefox worked just fine. IE was down, though, when I had the virus issue (I think it was a trojan that caused the problem).

For sure, I'd try checking for viruses if I ever run into this issue again!

use your virus software and if you have some an ti ad ware use that too
then do a disk clean. that worked for us when it happened on our old CPU if you let it go then you are definitely asking for trouble......

Hope it helps...........:thumbsup2

If you run Vista, try installing any updates you haven't installed yet. If you haven't been running them regularly, this can take you quite awhile to get completely up to date (you have to install one batch of updates, then the next, etc.)

I've found Vista does strange things to me when things gets even a little out of date sometimes...
