Here's the thing...our resort plans have changed and we will not be starting the free DDP package until a day later than orig planned...starting 8/14 instead of 8/13. I had made all our ADR's based on the 13th/park days/locations...y'all know the routine. . Had EVERYTHING the way we had hoped, but now we are staying room only the first 3 nights of our trip, then staring the DDP for the last 7 9 Loooooong story, not making ANY more changes!). DS had asked for Chef M's for his B-DAY dinner on the 13th, cool, booked it for 7, even better late EMH at MK. Well, now all meals on the 13th are OOP, DS understands that we will are trying to change the date of his dinner and he is fine w/that...except NOW I can't even get CLOSE to CM's between 8/14-20! DS loves the Contemporary so that was a big part of it, but Mickey is even more important. We have done the LTT character dinner before and DS did not care for it, and honestly, DH and I were not crazy about the food...the characters and setting were very nice, but even the times for there were very late...like 9 pm late. DS sounded kinda interested in the Garden Grill, but we have never eaten there and the menu looks kinda limited. Not even sure if I can get GG at this late date...it's either try for it or keep out CM on the 13th and pay OOP....but man, it'll be about $140 for the 4 of us when all is said and done...that is normally a whole days worth of eating.
SO.....who thinks GG is an adequate alternative for CM's? IF I can get it, that is!

Thanks,

Pam

Another thought is O'hana's breakfast w/Stitch/Mickey...but not huge a.m. eaters...worth using on the DDP?

I love GG! The food is awesome, the character interaction very good, and the atmosphere is very private and quiet. I think it is the best and most overlooked character meal in WDW.

Ditto with the above poster. WE thought the food was great. Atmosphere with the rotating room was neat. The characters were fun, and came by 2x, but we had a late ADR so that might have had something to do with it. :thumbsup2

Don't know if this helps but...

We have had to cancel our trip for AUG. 13-20. :sad1: I haven't canceled my ADRs yet (I'm waiting til I have a lot of free time cause I know I'll be on hold forever). But this shows you that people cancel ALL THE TIME..so don't give up. Maybe I'll try today.

One of my ADRs is for CM on the 13th & another on the 17th....both at 7:10 p.m. for a party of 4.

Could anyone tell us what the desserts are or might be? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies all....very helpful.
Daisyduck123...I am sorry that you might need to cancel, I try to say postpone when we have had to "alter" our dates...I sent you a PM ...please let me know...

Hi FINFAN...I'll send you a "pm" but I'm not sure how we could coordinate it. I'm happy to give you our ADR for the Aug. 17th at 7:10 p.m.

Maybe another DISer would know?

Garden Grill is great. The desserts are excellent too. As I have a "sweet tooth" i can honestly say the desserts at Garden Grill are far superior to those offered at CM!! For the adults (this is for those eating at dinner) you get a large platter with separate slices of different desserts. They are all excellent...for the children they are given their own platter with a vanilla cupcake and separate little cups with whip cream frosting, gummy worms, m&m's, little candy sprinkles for a design your own cupcake. That was a hit with all our family!! Try it...I think this was the best character food we have eaten. The character interaction was great too. The revolving resturant and scenes from the "land" ride kept the littles ones from being bored too while waiting for food to arrive.

YAY! I got CM's for 8/17...not Daisyduck123's ressie, but a different one! I am very interested in the GG meal, but DS LOVES the Contemporary and we had a wonderful stay there 5 years ago...so we are trying to recapture a bit of magic from that trip. DS is also a "all action/all the time" kid...an as much as I would like the relaxed setting of GG, DS would more than likely feel it was too slow. I would like to try it for lunch tho... you guys really make it sound wonderful! I better see how the rest of the ADR's go!

Thanks again!

Pam

would a slightly older couple, no children, feel out of place here? We are not sure about character interaction, though do fancy the restaurant for lunch.

No, I don't think you would feel out of place. Everyone has fun there..... loud with napkin twirling & impromptu parades.

Well I certainly don't mind loud places with napkin twirling!! :teeth: Wouldn't choose a character restaurant if I wanted a quiet place to eat! How do they manage the parades in a revolving restaurant?

OOPS!! When I mentioned the napkin twirling & parades...I was talking about Chef Mickey's, not the Garden Grill. Sorry!!
