I'm one point short of a 2 bedroom reservation for next summer at BLT. I can't purchase the 1 point I need until 7 months out. I could just get the 1 bedroom, but we have gotten used to the 2 bedroom.

These are my kids ages next year:

DD18, DS16,DS15- Should we squeeze into the 1 bedroom and just bring an air mattress for one son or do you think thats too small a room???

Thanks for the input..

It will have been about 4 years since we stayed in a 1 bedroom and my boys have grown a lot since then.

If you don't mind moving you could do the first night in a 1 bedroom and then move to a 2 bedroom so you are comfortable the rest of your trip.
If a 2 bedroom opens once you can get the 1 pt. you could switch the first night.

You could possibly book a 2BR lockoff for all days but the last day book a 1BR. If you can't book the 2BR at 7mo (with an extra point) then ask at checkin if you can stay in the same 1BR portion of that unit for the whole stay.

Or you could book 1 day cash through Member Services (Not Disney CRO) and ask Ms to link all days together.

Or rent several days from Dave's and bank extra points so you don't get into this trouble next year ;)

Assuming you don't have any points to borrow, correct? And which room category are you looking at? Guessing standard view?

The BLT 1BR's are one of the best for 5 people since it has both the queen sleeper plus the sleeper chair in the living area and it has a full bath in the living area.

But if you want a 2BR then there are a few options:

1) book as many nights as you can in a 2BR and wait until 7 months to see if you can get the last night. But if you are looking at standard view that probably isn't going to work. If you are looking at lake view then it would probably have a decent chance.

2) book the first night in a 1BR and the rest in a 2BR. I don't think I'd do the lock-off as was suggested because I'd guess you'd like 2 regular beds in the second bedroom so I'd just not get settled in on the first night and move for the rest of the stay.

3) rent one night from someone and book the rest on your points. You can work with the person you rent from to link the reservations together so you would not have to move.

4) look for a point transfer from another BLT owner. You'd almost certainly have to rent more point than the 1 but it would also give you a cushion in the future.

5) book what you can with your points at BLT, try to add the last night at 7 months with buying the additional points and if you can't do that look to stay at a different resort that requires less points.

Two trips ago I had 4 in a one bedroom at BLT. The next trip I booked a two bedroom at SSR, thinking that the teenagers would prefer to spread out. I found that in a two bedroom, every time there was downtime, the boys hung out in their room and played video games or watched movies. In the one bedroom, we spent more time together as a family. It was a more enjoyable trip.

You don't say when in summer or view or why you can't just borrow the additonal point from your next use year. Assuming borrowing is not possible, if you are looking for lake view there is a very high probability you will be able to get the additonal night 7 months out when you can purchase one time points. Same for theme park view except for time around July 4. If it is standard view, chances are significantly less except that if time you are looking for is mid to late July, one of the lowest DVC demand times of the year, you could have a chance to get the one additonal night at 7 months out. Regardless of which view, I would book the 2BR for all but one night and 1BR for the other and try to switch it at 7 months out when you can purchase the additonal point needed.

You definitely need 2 bedroom. We are just 4 but dd's are 21 and 25. It's not the extra space it's the bed. With a one-bedroom there is just 1 queen bed so each son will have some kind of pullout and less bathrooms.

Do one-bedroom 1st night don't unpack and move the 2nd day to 2-bedroom or you might luck out at 7 mos. they will hold your luggage when you check out and you can enjoy your day!

I never thought of putting the 1BR at the end and if we didn't get the 2BR then asking to stay in the same room for last night.- That's a good idea.

We are planning on going next summer- and I'm already borrowing points and want to stay in the SV
It's a good thing that they don't give you all 50 years worth of points up front when you buy into DVC- I probably would have used them all by now:sad2:

I have no experience renting or getting a transfer of points- maybe I should look into that.

Thanks for the ideas.

I know it will be better in the 2 bedroom- my husband won't spend the whole time aggravated that the living area is a mess-and in the 1 BR kids won't have any place to really unpack-there is never enough drawers- and then we will be tripping over each other if I bring the air mattress

On paper, the 1 bedroom is perfect- because I stay the whole time without paying cash or moving if I book it now.

I need to buy more points!!!! :rotfl: That would fix everything!

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Would it be possible to :

  1. borrow one point from next year now
  2. book at 11 months out
  3. at 7 months out buy the one point
  4. switch the reservation to use the borrowed point, the purchased point, and this year's points (-1)
  5. bank the extra point from this year to next year

I think you can still pay $15/point for up to 24 points for a one time use through MS. I purchased 3 extra points for a res. I had this past June.

Another option is to split your stay and do a night at a cheaper resort - or two or three nights. OKW is a bargain. Another thing we've done is if we fly out late at night or early in the morning we stay that "useless" night at a near airport hotel. We've also revisited a favorite hotel we wouldn't have stayed in on points.

A one bedroom at BLT would have a king bed in the master, 1 queen sleep sofa and 1 twin sleeper chair. Two bathrooms.

I am going to try to do that, but I have to wait until the 7 month mark. I'm sure my chances are slim wanting a 2 bedroom Standard view

This is what we will probably do. I just booked 6 nights in the 2 bedroom SV. I will try to book one more night (in front of this reservation) when my 7 month opportunity opens up to buy that one point I need. I know I have a small chance of getting the room. If we don't get the room then I will pay cash and stay somewhere else for a night or two. Although, its really hard to pay cash for a room at Disney when you have DVC. Points are like Monopoly money. Cash has to be paid off when the credit card bill comes in.:rolleyes2

I appreciate all of the recommendations. Thanks
