Can't buy just a child ticket on LMT?

I want to by a 5-day park hopper for my child on LMT, but it seems you can't buy *just* a child ticket, you have to at least buy one adult ticket if you are also going to buy a child ticket. Does anyone know if there is some way to buy a child ticket only? The reason is I was planning on renewing my AP (so I don't need a LMT ticket) but my child will be turning 3 so he needs his first AP. I wanted to buy the LMT ticket at a discount and upgrade it to an AP for him to save a little money.

That’s odd. I just tried and can’t figure out how to do it either. You could try buying him an adult ticket. Someone here asked about doing that recently. I think the discount is a few dollars better but I’m not sure what happens if you buy an adult ticket for a child. Doesn’t seem like they’d care but you never know.

Our daughter just turned three last week and we were facing the same choice. She’s not going back to the park until late March at which point I figure the price increase will have happened. I went back and forth on the LMT ticket with the discount vs buying the pass now before the price increase. We have Signature passes and I figure they’re due for an increase. I ultimately decided to just buy the pass now so I didn’t have to worry about them changing pass types and not getting something that matches the rest of the family. I have a feeling that they may make some changes based on MaxPass.

Yeah, it's a bummer as even if I buy the adult ticket we will be saving less unfortunately. I would be sooooo bummed if I bought the adult ticket and they said he couldn't use it. Maybe I should call and ask if a child can use an adult ticket?

I think it’s worth calling them. You’d actually save more with the adult ticket but it’s only about $2 if I remember correctly. You pay more up front for the LMT ticket but the difference between the adult full price five day hopper and AP would be less.

I'd call LMT and see if they'll let you buy just a child's ticket over the phone. I had to order our tickets by phone (I had a weird glitch with the website and couldn't get the member prices on my computer) and they were very nice.

That is a great idea, thank you!

I can understand why they would only allow purchasing a child ticket in addtion to an adult ticket because obviously a child age 3-9 is not heading there by themselves.
And there is absolutely no reason Disney would not allow you to use an adult ticket for a child.

Kids can use adult tickets.

But they work with tourists; they KNOW that not everyone has the same needs all the time. Many families end up with odd timing of APs because they bought their APs when it worked for them, and then a child changed age.

I bet it's just an error. I hope the OP calls.

Totally agree. Disney will be happy to upsell a child an adult ticket. They'll probably let me buy a park hopper and never hop as well.

Plenty of reasons someone would be buying a child ticket with no intention of sending them alone to the parks. They might be bringing a friend last minute or everyone else in the family might have AP's already.

I agree the OP should call. I bet it's just a system error of some sort.

Are you upgrading the ticket to an AP before you visit? If so, it doesn't matter what kind of ticket it is - APs are the same price whether adult or child.

So I just got off the phone with LMT and I was told that they will not sell me a child ticket only. I have to buy an adult ticket if I want to also buy a child ticket. It's annoying. I am going to call Disneyland to make sure I can use an adult ticket for a child. It will still save me money in the end, just not as much.

That's crazy! I wonder why they have that policy. Doesn't make sense.

It wouldn't surprise me if LMT's policy has something to do with past abuses, like adults trying to use children's tickets to get into the parks. All it takes is a few bad apples to upset things for everyone else.

The guy I talked to said it's because a child cannot go to Disneyland alone. Even when I informed him I had an AP he said they still cannot.

Interesting. If this IS the reason, sounds to me as if it's something that came from their legal department. You know, what if we sell some kid a ticket and he/she meets an internet creep at DL, BAM lawsuit!

But rules is rules and LMT can set their own <shrug>.
