Walking out of DCA after World of Color on Monday night we saw the weirdest thing.

World of Color had just finished and everyone was leaving DCA. We were past Grizzly and behind Condor Flats....crossing the path was a possum! The entire crowd just stopped, stunned at what we were seeing. This possum was just meanering across the path.

Has anybody else seen the possum? I have never heard of a possum sighting....Disney cats, yes....Disney possums, no. :confused3

It was a sight to see and a first for this vetreran of DLR. :rotfl:

Definitely the first in-park possum sighting I've heard of! I've seen the cats (Disney keeps them on property to help with rodent control), but with your account it makes me wonder what other unknown wildlife might call the Disney parks home.

Well, we have possums around here and one thing they love is cat food. If you leave a bowl of cat food outside overnight they will find it. I wonder if anyone at Disneyland is leaving out cat food for the cats. Maybe that is attracting them.

I was walking on the path by the rose bushes near the castle one evening and a huge armadillo crossed my path. Don't know if there's lots of them there, but it was the first time I'd ever seen one up close! A woman near me screamed her head off. The thing scurried under another bush. It was cute, but also kinda gross - they are rodent-like in the way they scamper. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience because I had forgotten all about my armadillo-encounter (happened a couple years ago). A strange but nice memory - like getting a little something extra on your visit!

If you mean at DLR that was probably another possum sighting. Armidillos don't live in California.

They do have feeding/water stations for the cats, so that is likely.

Now that's WAY more unexpected than an opossum! I just learned in the last year or so that armadillos carry leprosy and it CAN and has been transmitted to humans, not only by touching them but gardening in an area they have been or eating their meat. It is still rare but is documented.

I did a little research and apparently a few armadillos have been moving into CA territory. With all the weather changes we've been having, a lot of species that you'd never see in an area are starting to appear. Both animal and plant.

Coincidently I was looking at some old posts on another site and someone saw a family of possums in Adventureland several years ago.

We saw a possum at Rancho Del Zocalo in December at dinner time. It was a first for us, maybe the same one you saw? He didn't bother anyone.

A family of mice scared a lady and her daughter while in line for Pixie Hollow. They were wedged in the rock pile to the left of the line by the water. If you're that freaked out, maybe a place like Disneyland, with a GIANT mouse mascot, isn't the place for you. :rotfl:

Maybe the little guy was actually a very young CM in full costume? After all, Disney does have many a character runnin' about the parks.... well... actually walkin', seeing how running is against the rulz.... :)

~~ I love you Phil, and you will forever be with me! Forever my very best and most special friend! I love you to no end. ~~

After we saw the possum, I joked that maybe it escaped from Splash Mountain and wanted to check out DCA to see what all the "fuss was about".

lol...you guys are probably right! The armadillo I saw probably was a possum - it was dark and the woman near me was screaming. It did look like a huge long-tailed rat-thing but I think the way the light hit it made it's back look more shiny and bumpy than furry - but it had came out from near where the moat is around the caste - maybe it was wet? Anyway, it was weird. As I recall, it ran into some bushes near a bench and I though - not sitting there in the evenings!
