I said I wasn't going to do it. I said I was going to keep it simple... But then I had some free time on Sunday and cash from a bartending gig burning a hole in my pocket.... And I went to Wal-Mart.

I have to confess, it was my first trip there in YEARS. I was completely overwhelmed with the selection of canopies and I couldn't tell much about setup without opening a box. I know Carol has recommended one, but even that one I wasn't sure how easy it would be to do alone.

Does anyone have a recommendation of one (or a style at least) that's easy for someone to setup alone. You know, so that maybe I wouldn't look like a total idiot running around in circles at the Fort?

E-Z Up awnings. They are sturdy, durable, and true to their name.

I have an EZ Up. It has been great. While it is certainly easier to put up and take down with two people, I have done it alone many times.

We have a First UP, and it can be done alone. And don't forget campers are a helpful bunch, after we watch you and get a few laughs you will most likely get an offer of help. Even quicker if you have a BIG cooler.:lmao:

As a single camper most of the time, I can also recommend EZ-Up although most of these brands are for the most part a similar design. I can say for sure you can put one up by yourself but you have to go 'round and round' it several times pulling on each side and corner to get them open. I've found it helps to stake down one corner before you start pulling, then you can go to the opposite corner and have something to pull against to get them open more easily.

Thanks for the great replies! Sounds like my decision is made. Simple flew out the window already, I guess! Might as well do it up right.

Haha! Funny you mention that. A new cooler is also on the list since I'll be there more than a weekend. I'll make sure to get one of the double ones so that I'll have plenty of "drinks" to go around!
