I bought the Canon sx230 recently...the flash hardly went off on automatic, quite a few of my picture came out dark..ex. on the porch or in a garage with the door open, where a flash was needed. I have 14 days to decide if I should bring it back. I thought about buying the Canon Elph 300, but really wanted a p&s with mega zoom. When I talked to the salesman he told me that Canon sx230 is much better then the smaller P&S, he said it has a very sensitive sensor & you shouldn't need the flash in those situations. He said and in those times they do come out dark switch it to P mode with flash.

For those of you who use the sx230 have you run into the same problems? I called Canon, before I return it, they told me to send it to them & they would take a look at it. In that case I might as well return it. Please tell me if you run into the same issues, do you always shoot in P mode when you need the flash? Thanks!

Also are there any other recommedations of cameras,p&shoot w/mega zoom,I should look at?

I shoot mainly in AV mode- I've tried to learn more about photography and have moved away from using flash in many cases. There are many websites that can teach you more about the settings.. Good luck!

The sx230 is a good camera.
