I am a point and shoot gal though dh has more knowledge and can do some manual things with a camera. Besides our old old cameras we now have a kodak p850 which is great for dh. My needs are slighly different in that I want a point and shoot that is compact for carrying around in a diaper bag. We just recently purchased a canon sd800 and was hoping that was a good camera. There are times we will want two cameras so that part is fine and when my 2 year old gets to school age I may then spend the time and go with a dslr if I start to learn more but I'm thinking about the here/now. Anyway how does everyone like the canon sd800.

I love mine. I posted in the Compact Camera thread with some pics i took with mine. This is my third SD series camera and I can not be happier. The 28mm wide angle lens, image stabilization, and 7 mp are hard to beat. Plus it has a few manual controls that you can manipulate the exposure to a small degree. We use this camera for carry around and have a Rebel XTi for serious pictures, although this little SD800 takes excellent pictures in its own rights. I have gotten many "keepers" pictures with this camera.

I finally saved up enough money to buy a new digital camera.
I think I just might go buy one tomorrow and the SD800 might be it.
Does anyone have anything bad to say about it?

Thanks seashoreCM.
I'll have to see.
I really like the size of the SD800 and it seems like a great camera with IS.
I hope the ISO range is good too because i'd like some nice low light shots.

Just got my son a SD700IS for his birthday. I'm very impressed by the image quality. The IS rules. He (a fourteen year old) has very few blurred images. My next lens for my Canon350D will have IS.

I think you can't go wrong with either the 800 or 700. The 700 is getting harder to find, as it is no longer in production.

Regards,

Boris

How strange - we also have a Kodak P850 and an Canon 800D.

I really like the Canon. My only small gripe is that it can be prone to "noise" on low light shots without the flash as it defaults to a high ISO. If possible, go to manual, knock the ISO down to 800 and set a slightly longer exposure. You will need a little tripod or be steady on a railing to get the best from this type of shot.

Having said that, you can still get great results, even if you just want to point and shoot! Its a fantastic little camera, and even though Im getting a DSLR soon, the little Canon will still be in my bag as well!
