Hi all.. Just poking in here. I thought I'd put my 2cents in with some of my experiences with a S2... I'll try and add some pics later.
I read the whole thread, and thought I'd share some of my learnings.
- Night snapshot mode ---- This one is really good if you want a person with some lighted things in the background. It shoots the flash to light up the foreground (if you have it up), but slows things down enough to get lights in the background.
- The zoom ROCKS. I've gone to things and found I can get 'front row' shots from a long way back.
- Sports mode.. Someone talked about eliminating the shutter lag in this mode. I just wanted people to also realize you can hit the timer button (and theres a menu setting to switch to h-speed) and get that 1.5 shots per second in any mode other than Auto. I will often switch up to P just to get this mode, even when I don't want to mess with anything else.
Lastly I agree with the idea that digital rocks. I used to burn tons of film, but when I went up to this... Big difference.
For those that are comparing this to a SLR - this is MUCH nicer from a 'carrying lots with you' perspective. The biggest downfall is the smaller sensor - the SLRs have massive sensors which allow it to do things way clearer.
One last tip I havn't seen here yet.. One VERY cool accesory I bought... Lensmate makes a 'tube' that goes around the lense that allows you to use standard filters. (I kept all my filters from my 35mm SLR) and can now use them on my S2. It also protects the part that goes in and out AND lets me put a real lense cap on!
