Canon S3

Name-wise PNY is almost as good as Sandisk.. However, that being said, Sandisk has different cards at different speeds (My S2 does fine with both the high and lower speed cards).

The Sandisk ultra II cards is one of their fastest cards (I have one).. And for the slight difference in price is probably a better buy.

Thanks for all the info.

What is the difference between the SanDisk® 2GB Ultra II SD™ memory card on sale for $39.98 and the PNY 2GB SD™ memory card on sale for $29.98 after rebate from Staples???? The regular price on the SanDisk Ultra is over $100. Is this a better card for a camera like the Canon S2????
The PNY card is slower than the Sandisk. The faster card is much better for taking continuous shots, movies, and when copying the pictures to the PC (either via the camera or card reader). It's a better card.:thumbsup2

Great thread. I'm now considering this camera, in addition to the Rebel XT. How's the shutter lag on this in regular mode?

Wow great shots. I am impressed that those are handheld. When I try handheld shots of lights at night with my Kodak, it is never that clear!

Compared to the 3 year old Sony I replaced, the shutter lag seems almost non-existat. The only delay that I even find noticeable is the flash regeneration in continuous shooting mode.

I was also looking at the Rebel XT but decided I didnt want to carry around a lot of equipment with the kids. I am a bit torn about wether or not I made the right decision but DH is getting a DSLR so now we will have one for quick pix and one for when we have more time to devote to each shot.

If you don't mind carrying the extra stuff around with you, I would probabally go for the Rebel.

Hi all.. Just poking in here. I thought I'd put my 2cents in with some of my experiences with a S2... I'll try and add some pics later.

I read the whole thread, and thought I'd share some of my learnings.

- Night snapshot mode ---- This one is really good if you want a person with some lighted things in the background. It shoots the flash to light up the foreground (if you have it up), but slows things down enough to get lights in the background.

- The zoom ROCKS. I've gone to things and found I can get 'front row' shots from a long way back.

- Sports mode.. Someone talked about eliminating the shutter lag in this mode. I just wanted people to also realize you can hit the timer button (and theres a menu setting to switch to h-speed) and get that 1.5 shots per second in any mode other than Auto. I will often switch up to P just to get this mode, even when I don't want to mess with anything else.

Lastly I agree with the idea that digital rocks. I used to burn tons of film, but when I went up to this... Big difference.

For those that are comparing this to a SLR - this is MUCH nicer from a 'carrying lots with you' perspective. The biggest downfall is the smaller sensor - the SLRs have massive sensors which allow it to do things way clearer.

One last tip I havn't seen here yet.. One VERY cool accesory I bought... Lensmate makes a 'tube' that goes around the lense that allows you to use standard filters. (I kept all my filters from my 35mm SLR) and can now use them on my S2. It also protects the part that goes in and out AND lets me put a real lense cap on!

Okay newbie as far as photography here. I just got this camera for Christmas. I got tired of ruining great shots with blurred pics from my 3 year old Kodak. I love this camera so far and have some great pics of Osbourne lights and so on. How do I upload them on the forum. I have always loved these posts asking for pictures, and felt bad that I couldn't share. Now with this great camera I can finally share some of these but don't know how to get them on here. HELP!!!! :cool1:

Welcome to the S3 family, Dumbo33! I got mine back in Sept. and I love it!

Ok, to post photos, you first need to upload your photos and store them somewhere online. The DIS has an area to store photos, but for some reason I couldn't get it figured out. I (and a lot of others) use Photobucket (www.photobucket.com); it's free and it's easy to use. When you want to post a picture, all you need to do is start a reply, go to Photobucket and find the picture you uploaded. Photobucket gives you 3 choices for posting; the bottom one (with the in front) is what you need to post here on the DIS. Just click on the link and Photobucket automatically copies it for you; switch back to your reply, paste the link and viola!

Good luck!

hey thanks, I also was wondering and could not figure it out..

It sounds easy enough, so I will certainly give it a try. We shall see, and I can't wait. Since we live close to the "world" I have potential for a lot of pictures.

here is my first try at posting,,,,,you can guess where this is,,,the last night it was up

If you're using Photobucket, I'm pretty sure it resizes as you upload it. Then when you go to post the picture, you have 3 size choices to pick from.

Like you I just recieved my Canon only I got mine for a Christmas present. I did have to read some but still don't understand it. I just posted a couple of my pics on this board. This camera is great!!!! :yay:

I love your picture...how did you set your camera? I want to take a lot of night shots...
Thanks

Believe it or not this was shot on Auto with a shutter speed of 1/8, apeture 3.5. i was surprised at how clear it came out but again, with this camera, everything is easy.

Great photo! Just another question, did you use flash? Thanks!

Took my new H5 Sony 12x zoom to WDW in Nov.. For those looking for a nice point and shoot camera with a high quality optical zoom, this is it!! It has a 12x optical zoom, and 7.1 MP..
Here is an example of a shot i took from the same position (of the middle window), to get an idea of how great the zoom is.. And the pics come out beautiful -- not grainy at all,b/c i am not using a digital zoom, just the optical.
TFL!
