Canon S3

Amy, thanks for posting! Isn't it funny how our animals are usually the first subjects. :goodvibes I like Charlie's nose. :thumbsup2 I wanted to do that to Splash, but she was sick of the flash the other day & left. (attitude)

Splash gets green & red eye. :confused3 I just try not do shoot head on, but still gets it sometimes.

Pictures of my nephew have red eye worse than ANYONE. :confused3 Others in photo won't have it, but he will. EVERYTIME. Weirdest thing.

If you've got anymore inside photos, I would be interested. Low light (think Disney - no flash) is what I'm trying to simulate...but can't come up with suitable scenerio.

great pics and it shows nice detail,i have the s1is and saw the s3 came out, might be something ill pick up for christmas for myself.

Ok, it FINALLY quit raining and the sun was doing some neat things. I tried playing with tons of different settings, took 28 pictures, deleted a whole bunch, and here are the two best:

Sunset through the trees:

And here's a cloud shot. Man, I played with so many diff. shutter/aperature settings - I just kept turning the dial and trying things out. This one I used the special foilage setting; I figured if it helped to bring out the reds/oranges in leaves, maybe it would work on sunsets. Check it out:

Whaddya think? (I know, I should crop them, esp. the bottom one and get rid of some of the silhouette; I just wanted to share them right away!)

By the way, a while back I started a "vent" post on this board about the shutter lag on my old Canon A70 - I was trying to take pictures of my boys marching in a parade and ended up getting the rows behind them. Well........

Whilst trying out the diff. modes on my new S3 IS, I discovered that the sports mode has a continuous shutter! As long as you hold down the shutter, it takes a picture ever 1.5 seconds (you can adjust the time). NO SHUTTER LAG!!!! So now when I'm taking parade pix, I'll just start holding down that shutter while the whole band marches in front of me and I'll be sure to get a shot of both of my boys! :thumbsup2

So far, I'm lovin' this camera!!!

That is a cool function. I plan to use it with DWs S2. But I hav e to read more about when it focuses. Is it right before each shot? Then if it is realy dark and the camera can not get a focus lock does it take a pic anyway? or wait until it can focus on something?

We bought ours at Best Buy. I prefer it over Circuit City, primarily because I find it easier to get help at Best Buy. We also applied for a credit card and got 0% financing for 18mos. That way, we get to collect interest on our money. We could pay it now, but like the money in our ING better.

Korzmom, NICE pictures! Great detail. :thumbsup2

I'll update the title to today's date.

your pics are 800x600. The maximum for courteous internet-ing.

I like to post big pics. It shows more detail.

Hi PhotobearSam!

I'd love to buy that camera in the States as well! The price difference is crazy! What do you do as far as warranty?

I have the warranty registered in the US as my parents own a house in Florida...If they did not, I would not buy it there... :confused3

took plenty of shots today..some were indoors in a lower light setting-couldn't use the flash (would have ruined the mood anyways-we were in a egyptian themed area of the hothouse at the zoo)..so basically my photo sucked as I wasn't sure what setting to use!

I did go to the Scene mode and used the Indoor setting.
what setting should i have used to achieve a better photo?

I am thinking that once I arrive at WDW there will be places with similar lighting (for example the que area at Mission Space) and I want to be prepared! I don't want a bunch of grainy photos.

I don't have that camera, but my advice would be to take a look at your manual and see what it says for that situation. Also, that is not a bad looking pic, you can see decent detail in the shadow areas of the shot. If you are not satisfied with it, just run it thru your photo editing program and punch it up a bit. As for the grainy issue, if you are shooting in low lite, no flash, you would need to use a higher ISO setting so pic will have a grainier appearance. There might be a way around that, maybe again using your photo editor, but at this point, I don't know what that is.

OK, thanks!

I guess there is an international warranty you can buy too.

This place has great prices, and I've been very happy with their quality and their service: www.buydig.com.

What are you hoping to pay from a brick & mortar store? Circuit City up here in New York has the basic kit for $367. But you may be able to do better. :confused3

I can't get it shipped here because of duty fees and I am not going to my parents house in Florida on this trip...I don't know...Maybe I won't get it. :guilty:

Ok, gang - here are the promised pictures of my DS's band competition last weekend. Unfortunately, it poured down rain, hardest rain was during their performance. Poor DH had to hold the program over my head like a little awning to try to keep the rain off my new camera. I was hoping for bright sunshine so the colors would really pop, but this is the best I could get.

First, the band, lined up and ready to go:

My DS14 playing his bari sax:

And my DS16 during his trumpet solo - he had to hit a really high note and he nailed it! Look at the rain coming down!

Ok, I'll bore you with a couple more. I already posted these on the "autumn" and "available light" threads, but this way all my S3 IS pix are on the same thread:

Some fall foilage from yesterday, taken using the special "foliage" setting:
