I don't know what to do. I eventually want a dSLR and I'm pretty sure the Rebel XT will be sufficient. We leave for WDW on Sat. I've been putting off the purchase because I don't really have the money. I have some savings I *could* use but I really don't want to tap into that when I could easily pay cash in Sept or Oct. I could "borrow" from our savings but I know I wouldn't be deciplined about paying myself back.

I was originally set to get the black body with Sigma 18-125 but locally and on amazon the lens is out of stock.

I could get the silver body at Costco w/kit lens but I know that won't be enough zoom for me.

I just want someone to tell me that I'll be happy with my S2IS photos on this trip or that I"m crazy for passing up the rebate.

I'd wait, and not tap into savings. When you get the camera in the fall, you'll be happier that you paid for it yourself. If you get it now, you'll be happy, but it will be tinged with guilt as well.

One of my rule of thumbs of life: if I have to borrow (the money)... I can't afford it. If I can't afford it, I won't buy it regardless of the 'deal'.

I've had one for 2 weeks now and my guilt lasted until I got it out of the box, with that being said, I took some great pictures on Auto right out of the box, but if I were leaving for vaca on Sat, I would not purchase it now.....just one more thing to worry about before you go. + you would need cards & & & racking up additional dollars.

GO have fun with what you have and what for the price drop in Sept-Oct.

But if you really want it, I am sure B&H has it instock, order by 3 today and have tomorrow.

We're cruising in Sept and I got mine earlier to play with it for a few months.

wait..if you]ve never had a slr it will take some getting used to and you want nice, enjoyable to take vacation photos, not a crash course in trying to use your new camera ( speaking from experience,,,i've had a slr film for yrs and am still struggling amonth later with my rebel although i just ordered a new lens so hopefully that will solve some of my problems  )

I would wait as well, especially because it is just too much to figure out when shooting with a new camera. I had a little over a month and I feel like I missed/messed up shots. Were my expectations too high? Probably. :) It simply takes a while to get things to be second nature with a new camera. I have seen some really great shots from the S2IS!

Jann...... what new lens did you order?

I would have no trouble pulling money out of a savings account to get a good deal. But a big part of that deal would be putting it back in. If you are saving for the camera just put that money back in the savings.

However, I would not buy it to take on vacation after only having it a day or two. It is hard enough to take a new DSLR when you are moving from another DSLR. The jump from the S2 would be too much to deal with at a place like WDW.
