I love photography and have goofed around with my Rebel for the last year. I am looking into purchasing a tripod but have no clue as to what to what to look at.
Are their specific brands? or mounts?

I know I noticed there are ball heads as well as 3 way ones? which one have you found was the best? how do I know that head will work with mounting my rebel?

Is there an addiotional mount piece I need to get according to the tripod stand I buy?

Help (please) :worship:

I should add the tripod will be used for group photos, standing people photos so it's going to be one of the big, foldable ones not the small, tiny bendy ones.

Hope it helps some...

It looks like you want a full size tripod and weight is not an issue. It also appears you do not need great stability, since portraits usually do not require very long exposures or long lenses. In this case you are in luck because the cost is likely to be fairly low.

A Slik or Velbon tripod that goes to full height, from a store like BestBuy or B&H (online) should do what you want. Ballhead or pan head is a personal choice, most of us prefer ball heads for quick adjustment.

Almost all cameras (including your Rebel) and almost all tripods use a 1/4-20 bolt for mounting the camera, it is unlikely you will find anything else except maybe in a pro store.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I REALLY appreciate it. I will go take a look tomorrow when I go out and look for one. Thanks again for the help :)
